I started wot so I can play with some of my friends, but damn this is one of the hardest games i've ever played! I try to go toe to toe with the enemy especially when im top tier (wich is not often) and most of the times i lose lol. Another thing that really boggles me is that tier 8 russian tank defender or something i don't see it often but if my team has it i follow it around while if its in the enemy team i avoid it at all costs, is this normal? Btw i try to play a-20 light tank and nothing works, close fighting, sniping try to spot in some open maps, nothing works how can i play this tank? Im also grinding is7 it looks reliable and straightfoward. Some of my friends have suggested that i buy a tier 8 premium, i think its a bad idea as Im not confident with my skill yet and im not convinced that this game deals fairly.

Thanks, and see you around

First and foremost..

welcome to the forums..

don't mind the bitter guys, take all the advice positively... even if some cannot be considered as advice..

My advice would be learn the game at tier 2-5.. learn the spotting mechanics, learn map situational awareness.. and where you can reliably pen tanks... the rear is yes, side is ok, from the front you need to know where the weakspots are..

You really have to know what is happening around you in a batlle and it is much easier to do at low tiers.

as for the defender... yes run away from it when you see one...on the enemy team.. and even on your team.. because when people won't be able to pen it they will eat you alive next...

It's not an easy game to get into indeed. Maps are easy to learn, but each tier has so many tanks that work differently. So learning how to best counter most types vs what you drive is not easy for new players. Thus most advice not to rush tiers. Even tho you have others to play with you going up the tiers to make it easier to win etc. It's not the worst idea to stay on tier 3-4 to pick up more on the basics for your solo plays.

Defender has a rep for being the most pay 2 win tank around. And it is indeed strong as a top tier, but not invincible. But you need a gun that can pen it, and you need to know the small areas to hit it close up. Since most usually lack pen to deal with it at med ranges. They usually avoid it to take out his support first. As alone vs more guns, it's not that strong. And most like to pull it out into the open vs in a corridor. As there is where it's strongest. Tho.. there are ofc other normal tier 8 tanks most avoid on corridors equally hard. VK 100.01 is one of them. As you need 220 pen at least to deal with it head on. And that's via the hatch on top of the turret. You can forget about the upper hull etc. The longer you play it, the more knowledge you will get about most tanks, the easier they are to counter or avoid based on what you drive. But strength in numbers always works vs those. Even tho your IS only has 175 pen. It's enough for flank fire on those.

A-20 is a light. And you have the same camo bonus when moving, as when you stand still. Use it to get to sneaky spots and get intel. Damage is not the only way to get XP in +2 games etc. iirc you get a camo net etc from new player missions. So put that on it and binocs if you can afford it to max your view range when standing still. Use the map functions to get the view circle up so you know your view range, and use that to get bases or camping spots at the edge of it and try to spot targets. And don't fire on targets that are to close as you might get spotted. Turn on the panel info so you get assist and damage done displayed. If you don't get assist, then move to a new spot. As top tier the mobility makes it a good bully flanker. But it's a light, so don't expect to bounce anything. So attacking head on alone vs anything with more HP then you is not ideal. Lights are pack animals if you will. Go with others and gank lone and isolated targets etc. Or stick to spotting or intel. As it's a dirty job, but someone has to do it.

IS-7 line will get a change on tier 9 soon. But overall it's a forgiving line. As in if you make a mistake it won't chew you up and punish you hard for it. As the most German HT lines might do, or the French HT's etc. Tho the meta has changed, so their armor on some tiers is not that effective anymore. But it's still not a bad start. IS will get a new line from it next patch in about 2 weeks or so. It's a rear turreted line, and if you learn to sidescrape, it might be more forgiving.

Tier 8 premiums are great for income. If you can do damage. But to get a tier 8 premium before you get a normal tier 8 might not be ideal. As tier 8 MM is not great atm, and you will see lots of tier X games. And if you have no idea where to aim then, it's not going to give much in return. I see you have a Churchill III. Not the best tier 5 premium in the current meta, but cheap to run and not bad on most maps. I would suggest playing the game a bit more, finding a class that works for you that you find fun. And buy a tier 6/7 premium instead. They have a few good meds there, along with a TD or two that earns good credits. Not as much as a tier 8. But better to start with early on vs how the tier 8 MM is now.

I don't understand why so many people are angry, i know some terminology because my friends have been talkin about this game for years when we are out for a coffee and my win rate is good because i platoon with them. Another question are there clans that accept new players or such a thing is unheard of?

This is just how the forum is. Most players come here to whine about something they are not satisfied with in the game. Other players, game mechanics or arty :arta: So they are in a bad mood before even reading your thread. :)

You have a good tactic there keep it up. -And yes there is a lot of random stuff so some people feel that the game is against them. It's not but it sure feels like it from time to time.

Welcome to World of tanks!

I dont get the hate against reroll accounts, let them do what ever the flip they want.
And wow, 1k wn8 is considered a reroll these days, kek.

As on the topic itself @balc0ra did a great job.

sadly it fell apart
