SO I revieved a message from a player(first image) in which he congratulated me for a game we seem to have played and as the merciful god he is, decided to sent me a code for some gold.
The problem: As you can see, he sent me a link which downloaded an archive called ""WOT FREE EXCHANGE"(.rar, of course), which in turn contained an .txt with instructions and an installer for a program with the same name as the archive. I can't seem to find anything with that name on the internet, but because of the "official allure" the program has, I thought it may deserve as little as asking a question on the forum. ATTENTION: The code doesn't work on the official website.

Really? You download random things linked by strangers? Congratulations, these days even little kids know to not do that. It's called common sense.

I'd start a supportticket. And then I'd scan the computer for malware.

Yours sincerely,

a Nigerian prince that might need your help

Actually no, I haven't downloaded anything without proper precautions, but thank you for your attempt at being funny. PM me that Nigerian prince ID, I want to sent him some in-game currency.

Did you install or not?

if so, I'd do a malware scan before entering any login data anywhere. :)

Yeah... Something smells fishy here... :sceptic:

If someone wants to send you gold, they can do it by gifting it to you directly, and even then you might want to think twice on whether or not you trust them because they have every capability of doing a charge back after you accepted it and then you have to pay for the gold yourself or your account will be locked forever.

I kinda doubt that. What "precautions" are you talking about?

I'll start a support ticket on your behalf because your life and your PC will be toast by morning.

This is similar to another post earlier this week, same bait sent in chat, unless it was you and you've fallen for it again?

I'd start with formatting drive C:

Though that's not certain to get rid of everything these days so probably just unplug the PC and set fire to it.

Anyone capable of taking proper precautions wouldn't be here asking the questions you are because they would already know the answer.

It is obvious that he did install it, because he already tried some code.

I got also from same player 2 days ago, I was immiditly skeptict about this as it has arhive and exe file, so I did not use not install it, although gold which he promise would be nice. I saw he has Russian flag and as mine region is basically south Slavic nation I do compare; bag on my language means bug (like computer bug) and lik means guy, so it would be something like Bug-Guy. Anyway if you will get response from support please let us know :-)

I got same kind of message yesterday from player "Mistrzu0103"

"Good game, i sent you 1500 gold, here it is written how to get it))"

First I noticed very bad english, so it is a scam.

I started a Linux virtual machine, downloaded linked rar-package, unrarred and scanned 11MB "WOT Free Exchange.exe" with AVG, Bitdefender, F-Secure and even with Windows Defender.

None of them found any virus from the package.

I report more after installing Windows to my ESXi and running that exe.
