I have been trying to grind wz-111-14 this weekend with 175 pen on stock gun, In matches with tier 10s i can support but in matches  where i'm one of 3 top tier tanks i genuinely feel sorry for the rest of my team as 175 pen isn't even good enough to deal with tier 8 tanks.

So my question is why do stock  tanks not count as a lvl lower for matchmaker example tier 8 would count as tier 7 and so on ??

Because it makes it frustrating to play thus it motivates and incentivises players to buy gold for converting free xp to use on modules so the tank is fully upgraded before grinding for the next tier vehicle. That is how Wargaming makes their money and is a vital part of their business model.

Why would you ever upgrade your vehicles if you got a friendlier mm from not doing so? Though I admit that every time I see a T29 with the stock gun or a KT with the stock turret as one of my three top tiers I do sigh. Better than when they could be your only top tier, but mot by much!

Because, as Slyspy says, there would be tanks that would just be "better" stock.

For tier 9's I just save up enough free xp to get the most essential modules before I start playing them. They tend to be absolutely horrendous stock.

So at first you´re saying that playing stock tanks works better when you´re bottom tier because you can "support" and don´t have to carry, and then you argue that stock tanks should have better matchmaking, which would result in them being top tier even more often? I dont get the reasoning.

There are tanks that are better stock if you will. As most drive the Jumbo with the stock turret and derp to name one. Or the stock setup on the TVP with the 88 that many do to get more gun depression . If you got nicer MM due to that... well.

Well as you said, 175 pen is not great for any MM on a tier 9 with the new super heavy meta of late on tier 8+. But did you skip the 110's turret and top gun to get the tier 9 as fast as possible? As the middle gun for the tier 9 is the 110's top gun. And taking shortcuts like that on high tiers will def make your next grind way more complex then it needs to if they share the guns. Making the tier 9 grind go way slower and taking longer as you can't farm xp as well,  vs if you stayed on the 110 grinding that gun first.

They used to.

So you would get a fully upgraded tier 8 vs a stock tier 9 as top tier.  Tier 9 still has HP and armour advantage.

If anything what they should do is make sure stock tanks are never top tier.

Why wouldn't you unlock the 100mm 62-100T on the 110 at tier 8?
