I got shot and penetrated on my vk 45 02 b in the most bizarre way. The shot didn't even penetrate the lower plate, it just went through the front part that holds the first track wheel in place. This doesn't feel like it should have done any damage, maybe a tracking, but damage? What is your opinion guys?

That 'bump' is not on the damage model only on the visual model, but the lower plate behind it is on both models so he simply hit and penetrated your lower plate. Also note the shellhole on the tank can be slightly inaccurate to where you were hit.

Keep in mind that this is a server run game. Shell trajectories and hit markers are not always a 100% representation on what the server says did happen.

Even so. That plate sticking out over the wheels don't have an hitbox as such. Nor does it on the upper plate that has the shackles on it. And just leads to the 25mm plate that's next to the tracks if you hit it on the side. But also... depending on impact angle, there is still parts of your lower plate behind it. So if the angle was not that extreme. It could have gone into the 170mm lower plate as shown on the image below. And anything that's transparent, don't have an hitbox. Thus any hits there will be impacted by the armor behind it.

Spoiler

Looking at the elongation of the shell mark in 2 and the and the crease in the shell mark in 1 it looks like you were hit straight on so the shell went straight into your tank.

install the mod "battle hits" and you will see where exactly you were hit and also the exact angle.

How do you know that's not subject to the same errors as tracers and hit decals?

I'm afraid that at some point you just have to trust the server got it right and disregard whatever it looks like on the client end.

Looking at the model on tanks.gg...that little plate is welded right on the lower plate...so that plate is part of the lower plate. It just doesn't count as any extra armour so it just goes through like it's not there and hits the part of the lower plate that has been welded to.

I found it to be always spot on - also the impacts are sometimes in different places than shown in the live battle view.

try it!
