As this topic has been covered nauseatingly I'll keep this short. The tier 8 matchmaking is just yuk the last three patches have really ruined playing tier 8's and the fun factor is gone when a consistent factor is a bottom tier game. I had read many posts on this topic over the last few months but didn't think much of it since generally I bounce around tiers and don't really focus on one tier for hours on end that was until I decided to start another line. Once I got to the Japanese  O-ho I noticed that I had played 60 games in the tank and never once been top tier. I couldn't believe it when I looked at the stats, 60 games is a crazy number of battles to go through just to see a top tier battle.

How has your match making been lately?

Having played T8 mostly.  I'm having a blast.  S1, M4 rev, T44-100, First Proto.  Pershing.

Even enjoying the VTU.

T8 is fine, kill all the other T8s and support your top tiers. Easy money.

If your T8 and soloing the Maus you're doing it wrong.

Uncommon thread subject, but I will bite anyway it being friday and i need a break from work.

I dont mind being bottom tier now and then. Enjoying the challange and so on. What troubles me is when you are bottom tier and in game after game after game you get complete muppets as top tier. As soon as the game starts they rush of to a flank and pick their favorite corner/beach/corridor which they will defend valiantly not paying any attention what so ever to the actual battle being played.

You dont get to be top tier every game, why dont they atleast try to make the most of it when they have the chance. Dont commit until you know the other teams intentions, if you drive a slow tank make sure you position yourself so you will be able to influence the battle whatever the opposition decides to do. Driving a top tier heavy against tier VIII must be every muppets dream come true. But from what I have seen they dont seem to recognise the fact that they ARE top tier and what that means in terms of opportunity.... actually that kind of explains a lot of the current problems with matchmaking and the playerbase in general...

Back in the day tier 8 was one of the most balanced and fun tires to play. After the new MM it has just bcome a horror.

Currently grinding credits and if not for my beloved lorraine 40t or the M41 90 GF I would go crazy. Hope I'll get through IS-M quickly.

What bothers me the most is, that like 90% of the playerbase hate the new MM yet wargaming tries to make the impression like everything is fine and mute all the voices against new MM. I guess the critique doesn't fit into their patch agenda. However I think in the long term if player numbers fall and the selling of tier 8 tanks will decrease they'll finally rethink the new MM.

Additionally I haven't noticed the increased amount of steamrolls up until now. I thought people were exeggarating the amount of steamrolls until I counted the amount of games yesterday and the day before (games under 10 minutes and games where enemy had 10 or more tanks left) and noticed that 61.4% of my games during the last 2 days were such steamrolls where I quickly lost or won. I'm curious whether WG will adress those issues in the near future.

Tbh the tier 8 matchmaking has been terrible the last patches. But lately I'm getting more and more in tier 9 games or even sometimes tier 8 games with my tier 8 tanks. So yeah I guess they tweaked it somewhat

Same here. I press Battle with the expectation of being bottom tier. That way I never get disappointed and its a bonus when its all tier 8.

But I get freaked out when I am Top tier in T6/7! Hahaha. Usually happens when I am in my T92 Light, and citymap (#tinfoil)...

I think you are on to something there at least in association with my game play. Since the match maker changes I have avoided tier 8 more than I use to and also eased off of buying any more tier 8's since I don't like to play that tier in it's current state.

everything is fine

old mm.pngbtd.jpg

in the old mm we were top tier half of the time but people were complaining about those tier 10 battles when they and some tier 8 light tank were the only tiers 8 in the battle

- so in order to fix that problem of being useless in every 10th or 15th battle wg gave us new much improved mm we even get to be top tier every 8th battle and yet people are still whining

I haven't played any Tier 8 IS-3 battles since I bought my Tier 9 T-10, mainly because I transferred IS-3 crew to T-10 but also because it was so shetty MM (mainly -2 tier battles but only max three T10s). Obviously I don't get -2 tier matches anymore but that hasn't changed my outcome a bit. In fact, quite the opposite (and now max five T10s). So it really requires more skill to do well in higher tiers. But the step required seems to be quite huge T8=>T9 (not to mention T10). And what I've heard the MM is even worse in tier 10 tanks (mostly 15-0 template).

Or could there be an other explanation why I perform as badly or worse (IS-3 vs. T-10)? I mean basically every tank can pen IS-3 and T-10 quite easily but T-10 has way better pen than IS-3.

I agree.... That's why the only tier 8 ive been playing lately is the O-ho in triple platoons of it. No matter what MM you're in you can still crap on people like its no tomorrow.

I am grinding the VK 45.02 (P) Ausf. A and T28 Proto at the moment. Not doing great in either, had an evening with muppets a couple of days ago, slightly amusing but mostly painful.

The proto can be fun , not so much the VK45.02. You just have to painfully go through the grind and pray to RNGesus for good matchmaking....

I have not been looking forward to the VK, and I am not enjoying it either. One of those tanks I wished I had played before the new generation of tier VIII and the new matchmaking hit the servers. :(

Atleast the lack of speed of the T28 protos keeps me out of trouble and it has some armour and a good gun.

Problem with T8 MM isnt that you are being bortom tier all the time.. The problem is that most of the time your T9s and TXs eats crayons rather than actually play the game.

This is why the new MM is a compete failure. You cant put 3 guys with barely 40% WR in top tier TX tanks and expect the game to be enjoyable for anyone.

In 60 battles you never was top tier? Hard to believe...

But if speaking about problems, my only option problem is, when 10 tier spam gold with 330+ pen and they pen you way to easy and slow tank become only food. Simply even 10 LT easy deal with 8 TD and HT especially slow ones.

For the past 40 games I have been playing only elc even and I must say the battle tier has been totally irrelevant. Bottom tier games only means there are more hp to spot and gain assistance. The only thing that puts me off in current MM is the amount of light tanks - often 4 each side and that limits your space to do stuff.

whats a yuk?

T8mm sucks, but WG dont care. instead we get this in the new patch, very important change to the mm!

"Main Changes:

Improvements to the Matchmaker

  • The improvements to the matchmaker will ensure more even distribution among the battle types enabled by players (Standard Battle, Attack/Defense, Encounter Battle, Grand Battle). The battle type selector will consider the history of the player’s previous battles. The Grand Battles will not come in a succession."

But it wont consider if u are the 5 time in a row T10, tx WG!!
