Matchmaker not adhering to templates

So, apparently the templates don't always stick, even with plenty of population on the server. I just had a battle on Ruinberg, tier 5 battle in my Type T-34 (just started grinding all the Chinese lines) and instead of a 5-10 or 15-0 the matchmaker decided to make a 2-13 battle. Two top tier 5 tanks on both sides followed by 13 tier 4's. And server population, while it's not peak hours yet, is a respectable 30k on EU2 where I was and another 45k on EU1, so there should be enough players to keep the templates if there was need.

I think it would be good if the matchmaker starts deviating from the set templates more, even by just a little bit like this one. Thoughts?

There, fixed it for you.

 

But long story short - the template system could deviate from standard 3-5-7 or 5-10 or 15 template from the very start. This is nothing unusual - when the system fails to find a team setup within the set amount of time, it loses the restrictions.

With the fuss WG made about templates being good I don't see them rolling the whole thing back, that's why I was being cautious with my hopes.. Even a small change from the super rigid situation we have now would be an improvement in variety.. :rolleyes:

3-3-9 I have seen quite a lot, fun times for tier 9 or 10s when you get top tier like that.

I've seen similar line-ups in all tiers due to playing through the night before (insomnia is a hell of a drug, kids). I guess it prioritises getting you into battle quickly over ensuring that the templates are adhered to.

 

What's more shocking is that of my five battles so far in the Weezy-Teezy (Chinese premium TD), four have been top tier in a 3/5/7 match! :ohmy:

 

Tier 8 preferential match-making still seems buggered though, nothing but tier 9 battles again today. :sceptic:

Night time I understand, with less players and all, but you'd think that 30k would be enough to fill the templates. If this is a tweak to the system and we'll start seeing more of these I for one will be happy.

Most likely the matchmaker has to 'learn' (or gets tweaked manually). That might take a little while post-patch. Wouldn't be too surprising if the combination of a fresh patch and new rules, specifically the one that tries to vary the game modes, results in some wonky MM.

 

(To some extent you can see the 'wonkiness' in action with platoons; a three-man T10 platoon with an uncommon combination is much easier to fit into a T10-only match than a 3-5-7/5-10, because the matchmaker doesn't have to look for a same-tier platoon and fill the slots with the same tank types ...if that makes sense?)
