WIth this new "Chinese new year celebration" event, i decided to try chinese tanks. However i cant decide bettwen light's and medium tanks? So far i got up to pershing medium tier 8, and Buldog light tier 8.  But what i do find interesting is Light chinese tanks start with better guns stock, with wooping +33 pen on stock tier 8, and +20 pen on tier 7. And pen stays better even on top guns. So my guess is better go light?

I think the best thing to do is to go on the light and heavy line. At tier 8 light You can go down to the medium line.

Just skip tier 7 and 8 medium tanks, they are as bad as my winrate.

LTs.

Except the T34-1 the Chinese MTs are utter garbage.

Don't dismiss Chinese TDs, I've been impressed at how well they perform for imaginary tanks. :great:

First things first; Chinese lights, mediums and heavies are all the same up to tier 5. At tier 6, the 59-16 is a great little active scout and the Type 58 is a knock-off T-34-85 that's not quite as good as the Russian version. Tier 7, the WZ-131 is also a great active scout and the T-34-1 is amazing when you can get it into a hull-down position to exploit the thick turret armour and allow you the time needed to aim (it's a looooooooong time).

I haven't played the T-34-2 but nearly all the accounts I've read say that it's the one to avoid in the line. No particular reason except that compared to nearly everything else, it comes off second-best.

I reached the WZ-120 through the WZ-132 before the introduction of tier 9 and 10 light tanks. You can still do that but you now need to grind more xp on the light than you do on the medium to research the WZ-120. I'd still do it through the light line - it's 192,000 xp compared to 175,000 from the T-34-2 but you don't have to play the T-34-2.

In short and to answer the question, I'd say play the lights but I say that as a big fan of light tanks in general. The mediums aren't distinct enough to warrant grinding until tier 9 really. Although the TDs are proving to be quite fun too.

One thing to remember is that Chinese tanks will troll you as much as the enemy. The guns are punchy but every once in a while they'll send a fully-aimed shot off into orbit. Personally I think that's part of their charm but it's worth remembering because it will happen and it will cost you the battle occasionally.

The Tier VIII MT T-34-2 is a poor MT while the WZ-132 is a good LT.  With that you can research the better gun for the Tier IX MT.

Light, light, light, light, light, light.

Medium is a waste of time, unless you intent to fully research the tree obviously.

Going from the US tanks with their depression you will really have to adapt fast to the Chinese tanks which are on happier side of the gun depression ie no depression.
-3 to -5 is all you’ll get so any little bump that was your friend in the us tanks is a pain in the [edited]for Chinese. Learning to creatively back up hills and use your gun elevation is helpful, just be wary of getting up too steep a hill and getting shot on the engine deck! It takes a lot of time and patience. Also Chinese tanks tend to be small with tightly packed modules meaning getting ammo racked is very common and they catch fire VERY easily.
I’m by no means the greatest player but like to think I do ok in the Chinese tanks (more so called unicums should play these tanks to show how good they really are rather than using the more forgiving Russian meds) I’ve really enjoyed the challenges imposed by the Chinese medium line and made the 121 my 1st T10 recently.
Make no mistake I think the Chinese tanks are the hardest to get to grips with, but if you can make them work they are a great fun line to play.

Personally, I'm only running one Chinese line (LTs), but for whatever it may be worth, I can endorse Strappsters comments as far as tier VII...

The Tier IV M5 (another Stuart variation) is ferocious at tier (this was where I started harvesting Pascucci's medals!), the 59-16 is equally flattering at tier VI;

The T-34 clone at tier V is a bit of an oddity, not leats cos it's a medium in the middle of a line of lights, so I free-XP'd past it...

The WZ-131 is a beast at tier VII, especially if the stars align to give you the right team on the right map!

Not anymore. Pre-rebalance the WZ-132's top 100mm gun was the same as the second one on the WZ-120. Now the 132 gets a practically identical gun module with a different name. Because I guess the WZ-120 grind needed to be even worse. Eugh.

Best choice remains grinding the heavy tank line and then going down the mediums. Oh, nevermind, go for the heavies, the 121's kind of outdated after the 430U came about and does most things better.

The best thing about China are the preferential matchmaking premiums. Type 59, T-34-3, 112 and WZ-111 are all between fairly good and extremely competitive. Those tanks alone are worth having good Chinese crews because the PMM format offers you probably the most consistent, best balanced gameplay at high tiers.

I've played a lot of WZ-131 and WZ-132 and have the Type 62.  When playing the T-34-1 I have to remind myself constantly that it is a MT not a LT as it is tiny.

Stay away from chinese mediums, even the T-34-1 that people praise in this topic, requires 3 skill crew to shine. The gun without aiming skills (add maybe) BIA is atrocious.Potato ruskie 122mm gun style....I grinded with 75% crew and with bad approach so i am bit biased. When i unlocked sixth sense and aiming skills it was more pleasant to drive but sold it for credits since the line has nothing appealing.LTs look solid, same goes for HTs.

I always go with LTs over MTs.
