Greetings all, me again, the forum wasp buzzing around everyone's faces. To carry the wasp metaphor to its unfortunate conclusion, you are the flowers and I am trying to drink the nectar of your wisdom. Let's actually not use this metaphor.

Anyway - I am starting to get good results with light tanks, the class I used to hate beyond human reason. My Cruiser IV's wn8 was 40 a few weeks ago and now it's over 800. Not a bad improvement. Even my Covenanter has rocketed to over 700 wn8. My LT stats have improved so much that they are now my best class, by miles. Unfortunately the Curse of the British Tech-Tree struck again and there are no light tanks beyond tier 4. I do not consider the Crusader to be much of a follow-up and cannot win games in it, nor is it capable of doing LT Campaign missions.

Can someone suggest a decent LT line that will allow me to do all or most of the following things (bold is mandatory):

* Out-accelerate the rest of my team (for spotting)

* Act as a good scout, either aggressive (preferred) or passive so I've got a new skill to learn

* Damage the enemy

* Fire accurately

* Complete campaign missions

* Have fun

The Covenanter has good gun choices and is accurate, plus it's pretty stealthy. However is regularly left behind by Mediums and TDs, which is not only bizarre, but makes it borderline worthless as a scout. It also doesn't seem to be very good at completing campaign missions due to its lack of mobility.

I've currently unlocked the tier 3 French light heading down the AMX line, although I've heard the tier 3 and 4 tanks are dreadful. I also see loads of Chaffees and am considering that American line.

What would you recommend? Which will allow me to actually complete missions and maybe get a few kills?

Thank you in advance!

Don't know what the current best line is though I am grinding them all anyway.

I am liking the French as they are quite stealthy and have autoloaders.

But I also like the Chinese line.

Since the new patch is due out in march you may be able to get on a test server before too long which will let you try them all out.

I'd say the Chinese have the best combo of viewrange and camo to do the missions. The French lights are pretty good as well, but you have to play them a bit differently due to the autoloaders.

I played the lower tier ones before the light tank changes though.

The Germans have great camo and view range.

Chinese are good all rounders with a big gun for a light at tier 8. french lights are rpetty decent  and the T71DA is also a good tank to play but the sheridan is a pile of crap.. if you want fun/fustration pick the T49 with derp.

I played all light tanks till tier 8 before the LT changes.

The T71da is great, and the Chinese lights like the 59-16 and wz131 are pretty good. I'd avoid the French lights though.

The thing I don't like with the Chinese is that they lack view range. Only German and US LTs have good view range.

  German US Chinese French USSR
7 390 390 370 370 360
8 410 400 380 380 380
9 410 410 390 380 390
10 420 420 400 390 390

but the Chinese and French have great camo and this makes up for it -  I’ve played us, Chinese and French,  starting again I would go for Chinese , they are very good and you have an awesome premium at tier 6 to train those crews which makes a huge difference

French LT line is quite fun to play...at least the tier 6 and 7 are...i unlocked, bought and equipped the tier 8 already but didn't play it yet because tier 8 MM is so bad atm.

The lines all have their own strenghts and weaknesses:

The french auto loaders are great passive scouts, that can influence the later stages of the game with their guns. But against full HP opponents they aren't as good.

The US LT prefer the more active approach going for high speed, quick turret traverse etc. But they have some downsides such as size (and therefore camo rating), they aren't the most accurate but their guns are awesome when closer.

The chinese (not much experience with them yet). require you to be closer to the target, because of their low view range. But in the right hands of someone that knows when to push they can be amazing. (59-16 is a good tank in the right hands, i don't recommend it for people new to LT though).

the germans i haven't really played. so i can't say to much about them. They seem to have pretty good guns though but im not sure about their handling.

Soviet: though i haven't played them yet. But they are similar to the mediums from what i've seen. I've heard a lot of praise for the T-54 lwt and the T100 LT though.

For what you want, RASJA light tank line obviously, a part from the MT-25 the rest is all very good in mobility and firepower.

French LT's are also very solid but you need to be a very experienced LT driver to get the most out of them.

Like Cobra 6 said, soviet lights are probably the most suited for you. You also have Stalin guiding your shells from time to time. :)

I would also recommend french lights, but again, like Cobra 6 said, you need to be a little bit more experienced with lights to make them work.

I enjoyed all light tank tress, you can do the personal missions with any of them and you will find gems suiting your playstyle that you will want to keep. :)  For example I kept the german tier 5 Leopard. I just love the pew pew pew pew autocanon on that thing and drive it from time to time just to relax (it also used to be my credit maker before I bought any premium tanks).

I tend to agree with Cobra6 as well. OP the best starting point for lights is USSR. I really enjoy the French auto loaders but they are a very distinct play style. Chinese are good all rounders so worth considering for you after Russia and WG sells two light crew trainers for Chinese crews. I would not really recommend the German line, I feel that it is a little undercooked. The USA line has a few gems. But the T71 is an auto loader while the T49 is a light tank version of a KV2. But I would not really recommend the USA line to a light tank beginner.

France of Russia. Avoid Germans since the SPIC is akward as hell and the t10 is garbage. The US ones are a mix of good and bad. French ones are good all around in camo and mobility + have autoloaders. Russian have even better camo and retain some armor but the guns can't hit crapabove 200m (but are very good <200m because of good bloom). I'd say Russian ones.

Also don't go for china t9 and t10 are crap. Derpy guns. Average everything else

I like the french lights. The autoloader line feels unique and the tier 9 1390 is a novelty in my eyes. But as others already said, its a kind of different playstyle.

Currently iam also grinding the US line just to get the t49. Why? Because i want to take revenge on how many times i got killed by a t49 in my lightly armored (light) tanks.

I think my next light tank line will be the russian pancake.

You will find that the T49 is better with the low damage gun. The derp can be fun at times ... but usually it will fail you. :)

The amx 13 90 is probably the best tier 9 light atm. From the turd it used to be at tier 8 now it is a gem at tier 9.

Rashaa and chinese, i really really liked chinese and russian lgt was awesome. Also tier 9 french is fun. For some reason i hated the tier 8 american (not enough cammo) while tier 7 is good. Didnt play germans.

The German tier 8 has the same camo as the Chinese. The US line has worse camo though.
