Can we get working mg's on tanks ?

1) it's easy to show what you are focusing on, or point enemy tanks to your allies

2) It could be used to clear out objects

3) It looks cool

*For a balance purpose, It should NOT damage tank HP, only optics (and outside fuel tanks ?)

In War Thunder the machine guns actually serve a purpose. Not that they can do any damage, but used to distract the enemy, and to calculate distance.

Would love to see them added to the game along with secondary guns like for the B1 and Lee. Machine guns should work like our machine gun tanks already in the game except it shouldn't do any damage to the tank. It only plays the animation and sound as if a Pz. I Ausf. C was firing at a heavily armoured tank. This would allow them to introduce tracer rounds to the game.

Or outright kill a truck. As they have flatbed AA trucks there etc. So they can be used as a weapon to. Not just for show.

But this is WOT, maps are way smaller vs WT, and there is no need to calculate distance as range to target is listed in the sight. Nor does WT have a spotting system as such. So all fire there is visible, vs non spotted targets here that don't have tracers etc.  Only thing that would happen then is 14 tanks fire their turret and roof MG's non stop out of cap, because as OP pointed out "It looks cool". So the enemy team has something to shoot at way sooner then planned if it reduces camo etc.

Only 14 - try 29, or maybe 30  :)

People always got to find reasons to not have new features added to the game, don't they.

Adding functional machine guns is the least horrible suggestion I have seen so far.

Smoke generators on tanks as well.  Night maps with cats eye lights so encounter really lives up to the name.

Nice idea, can't pen with AP rattle off a few hundred rounds from MG, still won't pen but makes you feel better. But WG have said in the past that MG are only for use against infantry and seeing as there are no infantry in game...

The biggest problem functional MG's would have is that light armoured anything would suddenly become a LOT more vulnerable. Really hard to balance.

I did not say it was a horrible idea. But not as practical as pr the reasons vs WT you gave. And it's gonna get old and annoying fast with the player base we have. As that's what the campers will do that waits for the damage to come to them at the back. It's basically a sign saying "I'm here"

What would be the purpose of this? Cuz I don't see any need for it

That is indeed one of the main problems. 12.7mm machineguns would tear some of the glass cannons to shreds efficiently and quickly so it's not really a good idea to make them functional considering general game balance.

Also unlike in WT there are no planes in WoT that you could shoot at to make these MGs really useful, there are no halftrakcs, no armoured wheeled vehicles, no cars, no infantry...

But yes - they would look cool ;)

How would the UI work? how does it work in WT? ahhh sausages I shall go look:facepalm:

Still cannot find any video of people taking fire from one. I imagine this annoying rain, shaking camera  and red lights....

I don't think they should do damage to other tanks since heavies or mediums will not suffer... maybe you can take out optics or something ?

DezGames just did a video on some mods and one of them will make your movable parts of the tank well, move!, includng mini turrets and machine guns. I guess if you fancy this you can try it out.

Yeah I heard of those a couple of months back, but it wouldn't be the same thing ! for example when a heavy is capping and you switch to HE (since you need to reset) and instead of wasting the round on those ammo crates, you use your mg first to clear the way and then fire the HE to reset !
