I have earnt as many of you will have badges that can be displayed in game. I was considering displaying my t9 award I got in the recent event. I'm wary of displaying it though due to arty focus, has anyone got any feedback on this?

If you want to get more arty focus, go right ahead.

Heck even a scrub like me gets more arty focus because of a badge like that...

You don't need any awards for arty focus. It was just yesterday, I think, when I was taking my Type 34 to the Overlord where all three enemy arties coordinated a simultaneous hit on me. :arta:

You guys really think arty focus is a thing?

Seems perception to me... or maybe I’m just not good enough to consistently be on the receiving end.

very likely you are too good, being a real pest and marked to die by the spg so the slackers with high win rates do something other then red line camping

Yes it's a thing, when you are a tier 8 heavy hiding behind a rock, and an E100 is sat in the open next to you, but the enemy tier 8 arty is shooting at you, then it's pretty obvious.

Obvious XVM arty players go on my blacklist so I know when they appear next time and I can play accordingly (as in basically camp)

I'm afraid that I will make myself a target if I ride around wearing my phat personal missions badge, so I keep that to myself in game. But just so you guys know, I do have the greatest badge. M'kay.

If you want to get focused by Arty

a) get spotted in the open
b) stay spotted in the open

c) stay out of Arty cover

d) stay relatively stationary

Most high WN8 players don't do these things, so don't suffer arty focus really

Have you ever asked one of these players after a battle?  Not insults or anything... just a genuine question.

When playing arty for missions I’ve on occasion focused on players I think I can stun more or do more dmg to as they’ve got paper armour.

Edit note:  I hope you’re not accusing ppl of focusing on you with your forum account?  Whatever that’s about...

Thats the problem. Most of the time good players try and take those positions where they help their team the most by stopping attacks, aggressive spotting or just decent forward positions for damage. They also then end up with getting focussed by arty due to their threat more than their XVM colour. However we would then all like to think we got focussed cause we were "great" not becuase we were a big threat....but then these two often go hand in hand

If only people realized that most of the awards are achieveable by quantity over quality. Doubt it makes much difference.

As for arty focus ...sometimes it's a thing, though team chat very rarely singles people out, others it's a result of being spotted early/often and arty hanging on like a tick.

Forumites focus is actually a thing, you know. Kind of evil, but when you see a high-profile Forumite and you just so happen to have the ideal tools for the job ...it doesn't really matter if he's in a T8 HT and your platoon is a T10 arty+TD. At least if the match outcome is sort of a given at that point.

Three-arty focus is however evil enough that even community staff and moderators don't "deserve" it.

These medals remind me of the scene in the Simpson where they describe Olympic medals, you all know the one, "Beautiful Gold, so-so Silver, and shameful bronze....." . Unless you have the very highest medal possible just forget your worry about arty focus and don't embarrass yourself in the first place.

It's my in game ambition to get so game-aware that I know exactly what is happening to all the other guys on my team, and also what the enemies thought process is when they select targets.

There's a mark of excellence on my Crusader but anyone expecting me to play like a unicum in it will be sorely disappointed, as my playstyle more resembles that of a drunken ape with an itchy bum. Who dies a lot. But the mark is there for a reason, whatever that may be (perhaps WG felt pity for me), so it is displayed with pride. And there's always the fun factor of knowing that >50% win rate players will be choking and spluttering in outrage. "A 47% bot with a mark? NOOOOOOO!!!"

Well for me that did not make a difference :D But oh well clantag and the stupid XVM gave it away anyway so why even bother.

Also most if not all of these badges are totally worthless. Most can be obtained via grinding aka investing time rather than being skilled, so where is the point?

LEL, ok 'Sherlock' give me a plausible explanation as to why a tier 10 arty, will shoot at a rock, where a tier 8 heavy is hiding, whilst tier 10 targets sit stationary in the open, and why they would keep trying this shot.

There might be other reasons. Maybe your arty will not damage the tier X only stun it which is worthless if there is no one to shoot at it while you can damage or maybe even kill the tier VIII. If the tier X keeps camping field you can shoot it later for assist.
