I just started my Conqueror grind and aside from having the top engine unlocked via the Centurion AX grind, I am playing it stock. To my surprise, it has been a rather painless grind thus far. The stock 32-pdr seems to do quite a good job thanks to its insane DPM.

After upgrading the tracks and mounting a gun rammer, the reload is 5.01 seconds (or 5.09, can't remember offhand but it spams away), enough to keep tanks permatracked. I farmed an Obj 263  from full HP to zero by tracking it as it tried to rush me around a corner. Erased an Emil II the same way as well, except he was trying to reverse back down a slope after emptying his clip.

The downside is that it can get quite expensive to run in unfavourable MM and in the odd game you can feel impotent when things like Japanese heavies and VK 45Bs show up.

Great view range as well, so it rakes in nice assistance damage.

Stats so far in the tank:

14 battles, 57.14% win rate

2537 average damage (Currently it is my highest among all tanks, beating my T57 Heavy which speaks volumes about the DPM)

Will it get better with the top gun or is the 32-pdr something to consider as a permanent option?

Top gun is awesomeness on that tank.

I haven't played the "new" conqueror, so struggle to comment. I would say though that as you play it more you might find the lack of pen and alpha a problem. A brief summary of the differences:

+700 more DPM

+Better rate of fire (so permatracking is an option)

+Gun handling after firing

+Slightly better credit:damage ratio if you penetrate all your shots

-120 alpha damage

-39 pen (assuming standard ammo)

-Inferior module damage

-Increased exposure time

-Worse aim time

-Heavier, so worse power:weight and everything that goes with (effective ground resistances etc.)

-Worse shell velocity

-Lower callibre, so fewer overmatch opportunities

-Worse HE rounds (L1A1 has very nice HE rounds)

-More expensive to run (greater reliance on premium rounds, which don't even have that high pen)

Same: Potential damage (though more bounces from 32pndr will mean it has effectively lower potential damage)

On balance, I think the 120 mm will be the better option. With the 32pndr you are putting all your eggs into the DPM basket.

It is a good gun. Certainly a lot better that many tier 9 tanks without the top gun.

But you will want the top gun on Conqueror because it is teh secks.

I second that, the 120 mm is a smooth operator combined with the gun depression you'll make mince out of Russian and Chinese tanks. You'll see a lot of guns pointing to the sky, it is teh secks :)

120mm all day every day.

The DPM on the 32pdr looks good but you'll fail to pen a lot of stuff and you will not be able to deal with the Super Heavies.

Vs the old 20 pounders it had before. Yes definitely. As I've seen many a stock Conq get top damage dealers still. As the DPM is there. Tho not the pen vs the top gun.

Yeah, I think I was just on honeymoon with it. Last night started well then I got a run of tier 9 and 10 heavy games and I quickly realised that people are not afraid of DPM.

Observational bias or not, but I got the impression that tanks were starting to rush me when they figured that I wouldn't hit them hard.

So, I got it down to 39k XP for the top gun and then free XP'd the balance. And yeah, that top gun makes a massive difference. Sub-10 second reload for 400 alpha is still good business and a bit of HESH is always nice.

DPG took a knock in my run of bad games with the 32-pdr but I started pulling it back up once I got the 120.

Conqueror just isn't quite fast enough to use that DPM from a low alpha gun.

Sure, you can have great games with the stock gun where you farm the enemies´, but the top gun is much more consistent. Conqueror gun handling is godlike with the top gun, AND you get other perks like the HESH shells.

It's a good stock gun but nothing more than that. DPM has for long been a very overrated stat but in practice minimizing your exposure time with better alpha is always going to be more valuable. There's no reason to play it over the top gun which just has a very good combination of all stats without any leaks. It hits hard enough, it gets a relative reload, it snap shots very well and it has good shell velocity so it works on any range. It also gets a very good premium round.

The reload on the Conq's top gun used to be much better than it is now, it was also a faster tank. Then they changed it. Now it has slower reload and speed, but more armour ( with spaced added to the turret) and it got a gun depression buff. It was like -7 before I think. Might have been -8, cant remember. I preferred the previous version to be honest. Not played it much since it was changed.
