Recently, I brought back the Sherman Firefly. I remember crystal clear that the 17 pdr on the tank sounded similar to an 85mm but now it sounds like a 75mm. The gun(s) don't even sound menacing anymore. Supposedly a "Tiger Killer" sounds like an airsoft gun. No mention of this at all. Does anyone know why this happened? Will it be fixed?

Budget cuts.... £17 was too expensive, so now it is only £2 sounds...

But seriously, there was no point nerfing a tanks main feature - its sound. It actually makes enemies think its less of a threat because it sounds weak. Even if the Jagdtiger only did 200 damage it would make the enemy hesitate for a second due to the loud boom and the massive bullet going inside the tank. I know this thread sound stupid but little things like this add up.

Why do you assume it was deliberate and not just an error somewhere?

I'm more asking why this has happened. It could possibly be an error but why hasn't anyone noticed until now? It seems to be deliberate because there is a very tiny 0.2 mm difference between the American 76mm. That is the only closest explanation for deliberate argument I can find. But why would they touch British tanks and their guns when they focused on more USSR tanks this update? It could possibly be an error. I'll just have to wait until 1.0 as there is further sound improvements. Hopefully its fixed by then and the devs notice this.

IIRC, most of the real gun got a recorded sound with the improved sound update. It may actually be it's real sound.

They just implied the sounds got "More realistic" because apparently you hear tracks clatter against the pavement + gear shifts etc which I never hear, the guns don't use recorded sounds. Just as the engines don't.

17 pounder AT guns do not sound like russian 85 mm, so it would be accurate if they don't sound the same.

And what 75 mm gun are you talking about anyway, about every country produced a 75 mm gun and they all sound different.

Originally I wanted to say the gun sounded something between the 76mm and 88mm in game. A 17 pdr obviously doesn't sound like an 85mm but it used to sound like a tuned down version of the 85mm in the game. the generic 75mm - 76mm sound you hear in game on Pz 4 h, M4 shermans etc. replaces the 17 pdr. now. I can't explain it using words so I'll just use videos.

(Sorry if I am using the clips without permission. I am not naming or shaming anyone in these videos and I'm just using it to show as an example)

I don't know if it's just me, but to my ear both clips sounded identical... :amazed:

the Before clip has a much deeper tone to the reloading sound and more echo in third person. Just in general sounds like a more smoother 88mm you find in game.

Also this thread needs to be moved to British Tanks > Mediums section or to a bug reporting section.

No but it makes more sense to put it in the appropriate section. didn't know that those sections are dead.

Yeah, but it is not that inappropriate here anyway. No need to rush its demise.

ah, so I was not the only one who went paranoid?

The 17 pdr now sounds like any generic 75mm, which is not too much of my liking,

also, the 17 pdr on the S35 CA still has it's original gun sound

The vanilla gun sounds are terrible anyways, dull, cheap and fake i cant take game seriously when these sounds are on.

Thank god for zorgs revival of gnomefathers but unfortuantley they havent been updated yet.

Hmm, have you tried looking in settings for the "Low Frequency Enhancement" option to see if that has any effect on the "deep"-ness of the sound as you said.

Yes but that won't change anything because the original 17 pounder sound was removed in this patch and it was replaced with the cheaper generic 75mm sound. CptBarney is right, we should wait for a sound mod.

'Cheaper generic 75mm sound?' Are you seriously suggesting that they have to pay someone royalties any time any given sound effect is used? :amazed:

No. Nope. WG is capable of making better sound effects. The 128mm was revised a while back. It used to sound like the 122mm you see today for a short period. I am sure they are capable of making a better sound effect for smaller calibers on their own. I mean, its 2018 and WG is worth millions with their games focusing primarily on combat.
