Hey Tankers,

does the standart HE-ammo on type 4 and type 5 with 1100 do less dmg when NOT penetarting the enemy tank than the premium ammo with JUST more alpha (1400) but not more pen or higher calibre? And why/why not?

Thx

Greetings God_of_Shame

Yep. A nonpenning HE shell basically rolls for damage, then halfs that and subtrats some depending on what the thinnest armour is around the impact zone.

So higher alpha means higher average damagerolls which results in more damage in the end.

HE on Type 4/5's deal damage regardless. They only have 75mm pen, yet they seem to damage you despite hitting armour that has 268mm+. Those tanks opens the question. Does a tank that says it has 355mm armour, actually has 355mm armour within the game. Because tell me what tank gun has a 355mm pen in the game? Because they all seem to have no problems penning the upper front plate of a badger. From 140's, BC 25ts & even Action Xs.

I'd love to have someone prove that the stats match up to what really happens in game. Because if explosives should damage modules, injure crew or stun. Shouldn't damage the tank because it didn't pen the armour. Type 4/5s cant with only 75mm pen.

tanks.gg is your friend for armour values. HE seeks out the weakest armour in the explosion cone.

As for nonpenning HE shouldn't damage crew. If you put on a bike helmet and someone hits you on it with a sledgehammer I think it would still hurt you despite not breaking through the helmet. Same principle. A large caliber HE shell carries a LOT of energy that has to go somewhere.

Dmg depends on where do you hit the enemy. The thinner the armor the more dmg. Plain and simple

Really?  You claim to have been around since beta yet have no idea of the HE mechanic even though I linked it it above.

HE does damage according to the formula:

Equation_explosion-damage.png

It has nothing at all to do with penetrating armour.

AP/APCR/HEAT only do damage if they penetrate armour.

Badger has as little as 63mm effective against HE depending exactly where you get hit but it's mostly 215 so using that, with no spall liner and a direct hit you will block 236hp of damage, leaving 464 of the 700 (1400 halved) initial damage potential to be done to your Badger on an average roll.
