So I recently started up the sheetbarn tree.  Started at T5.  Enjoyed the T5, 6 and aced both the T5 and challenger in my first game.  I am enjoying the Challenger but I have a terrible win rate in it.  If I am being honest I have had a stonking amount of bad luck with teams.  Many of the losses have 1-5 / 15.  My stats so far are,

42 battles, 45.24% win, 1635 av dam, .95 spot, 2.05 kills, 70% hit (yeah i know!) 871 av xp.

I have really been trying as top and mid tier to use the speed and be more aggressive.  Bottom tier I obviously have to be a little more careful.  However, even in games where the match up seems good I am finding it really hard to get a win.  I am not sitting back red lining farming damage.  The gun, if you do need to snipe, is flaky despite what the stats say.

I am however actually enjoying playing but what the hell am I doing wrong?  I suppose it play it a bit like a hybrid comet/ turret TD.  Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks to everyone who actually replied despite the fact I retardedly deleted the body of the post just before heading out to work!!

Cheers

Magnus

That's why they named it the Challenger,

I'm not using the top turret or gun it seems to be ok-ish. But it definitely is not my go to tank when I log in

But it is a thing of beauty one of the prettiest tanks in WOT :)

Top gun transforms it from being a med tank wannabe into a decent TD

Dunno what to think about it.

It's okay, but the top gun, its a bit on the derpy side, but those 300 dmg hits does make up for it and the prem ammo is nothing to sniff at

It was the worst tank in the game before. The top gun actually makes it a capable support tank, and somewhat fun... situational fun, but still.

it is a very good tank with the new 32pdr and i really enjoyed 3 marking it. Yet to buy the charioteer as I shudder to think how im going to grind 100k for a decent gun :(

Well besides WR you are still doing better then mine atm. Tho I did over 150 games in it with the 17 pdr when it was 100% useless. As no tier 8 and 9 was scared of you. And gladly took a 150 damage hit when crossing the street to kill what was on the other side of it. Not a single top gun or high caliber from that grind. Played a few with the 32 pdr after it came. And at least I have a few top guns, a high caliber and even a Radley. And I've seen a few top damage games vs tier 9 even. In a pure support role that is.

Personally I never got it to work in an aggressive stance, and I don't know how your style of play is on most turreted TD's.  But I found It's a bit more tricky with the new gun as the turret is not fully traversal for that role vs even the SU-152 that I was really aggressive in. I simply use the mobility to get support role shots where I can, staying out of sight for as long as possible. Follow the HT or medium lane push and cover their rear. DPM is low vs my other tier 7 TD's. But pen and alpha is more reliable to get it to work now IMO.

Yet to try the new big gun on this. Pretty much finished the grind so not sure whether its worth the credits for the last leg.

It can be quite a good little number when it has a good day. Turret rotation is soooo slow though.

I can at least use the tortoise gun.  I doubt I will and just free xp to the big gun when I get there.

Cheers for the replies all.  I should have said I am playing the tank maxed out with the top gun.

I had gold octane on it for that reason alone when I did grind it. 10% might not sound like much. But it was enough when a light came to flank you.

Following this up.  I have to say I love this tank.  I unlocked the T8 but was around 75% towards 2nd mark so decided to do a few more games to get 2nd mark.  I feel the first 40 games were just not great teams combines with me playing like tard.

I ended up with 86 battles, 59.3% win, 1726 av dam, 942 av xp. and a kolobanov's medal.

Play it like a comet crossed with skorp.  Thanks for all the advice.  Onto the T8 now.

Cheers
