Taking a risk here dropping another subject on my mind... been playing WOT now since Jan 2018... an at first I was quite confused of the mash up of different tanks and their era... but it has settled by me now but one thing I´m still amazed about is the difference in speed among tanks... most of the time I see tanks driving on the battlefield like Bugatti´s... I´ve seen  Super heavy tanks outrun medium tanks... but the funniest is when you see the AMX 13 driving like 60 mph on the battlefield... the max speed it can do is around 40 mph - on road... It´s cool to see them flying around but some stats seems to be wrong... :)

Yep, funny. Though, the only way I was able to make amx13 go 60 mph, was to give its french crew a dose of russian canned "tushenka", and pointing them to the nearest WC at the other side of the battlefield.

That's because speed is listed in km/h. 40mph=63km/h.

Use the international system, it's better!

Mph or km/h either way all speed in WOT seem to reflect their maximum on roads... and most of the time we all drive off road don´t we?... :) As I said - just a thought of mine... :)

This is where you're not understanding the differences in ground resistance which is what makes tanks reach their top speeds slower on poor ground.

There is more to WoT than "this tank has this top speed therefore 100% of the time it will reach it"

The top speed of the IS-7 is 60kmph. You will rarely get above 45.

From what I remember going back to beta days, yes that's what they based it on.  In fact some like the BT-2 could only reach their top speed with tracks removed.

The reasoning being that a Maus driving at 2kph would be realistic but not much fun.  And it's more about fun than realism.

I doubt he was. It was most likely closer to this when he realized how dumb his quote was.

WoT is not a realism tank simulator. If you wanted realism you picked the wrong game.

I find the lack of inertia (I think that's the proper term) more surprising, in that a huge tank might have low top speed and be relatively slow to turn - but still manages to accelerate hilariously fast. That's going a bit into 'balancing' than 'immersiveness', however. Even a Maus can play 'peek-a-boom'.

As for the speed, most terrain is indeed considered 'on-road'. No real surprise; there are thousands of tanks driving there each day. Ground would be rock-solid (and the asphalt turn to rubble, but you know). If you try some of the 'soft' terrain, however, you'll notice that quite a few tanks lose agility and speed. The western valley on Lakeville features a lot of 'soft' terrain.

(Of course that depends a lot on what tank you're driving, reason behind that are statistics not shown in the game client. Same type of stats are also responsible for governing the size of the aiming circle when the tank moves, for instance.)
