I am starting to think about a new keyboard. I've been looking at the Corsair K95 RGB PLATINUM Mechanical Gaming Cherry  Product video

Any suggestions or comments?

Everything is better than Razer, don't buy Razer trash they have no quality control.

I've had razer in the past. I wasn't impressed. A company that specializes in gaming gear, should be able to do better.

Lots of cash for a bunch of buttons...

To me, all that fancy gaming equipment is a huge waste of money.

Exactly.

I've always used your typical standard office mice&keyboards and they've always worked fine for me.

Just last week I found another 2nd hand mouse for my collection; a standard HP Ball mouse with USB connector. :3

Keyboards, not really, they are "meh" at best. Their mouses tho? Sure. I've never had a good Razer mouse. They fall apart rather fast with the terrible materials they use on them. None of the few I've had lasted more then a year or so.

As for Corsair? I have a K55 that I'm super happy with on one of my rigs. Would I pay 4x more for a K95? Not to sure. But I suspect if you do, you won't be disappointed. As I can't say a bad thing about Cosair's recent products.

The K95 is really just a K70 with an extra row of programmable buttons on the left side. If you feel like you absolutely will need and use them, then it's a good buy, Corsair keyboards are some the best there are, but if you don't the standard K70 will be better suited for you.

I have a Corsair Strafe RGB, which is a slightly cheaper version of the K70, same layout same keycaps and everything but the Strafe doesn't have the media buttons on the top right corner which for me isn't such a big issue as i use mouse shortcuts for media buttons, but for many others especially that volume slider roller thingy on the keyboard might be really useful. The construction on these Corsair keyboards is superb, I even spilled a full pint of Pepsi on my keyboard but with a disassembly and complete wipe with isopropyl alcohol to get the goop out of the pcb it still works just like new!

I’m currently using a Corsair Strafe RGB myself and I can say that I’m very happy with it and with Corsair’s quality as well. As for the Razer stuff, used to use one of their keyboards in the past which I really liked as well, never had any issues with it and it still works now. Use it as a backup keyboard and for my Steam Link / whatever I attach to the tv. I’ve also been using a Razer mouse for the past years and it’s honestly the best mouse I’ve ever used. There are so many people complaining everywhere about Razer being garbage and their products breaking rather quickly but I’ve never had any issues... guess I’m just lucky?

Anyhow, the K95 RGB Platinum is a very solid keyboard, although pretty expensive because of all the extra aesthetic features. But, like most of Corsair’s keyboards, it’s great.

I have the K70 and it works great and feels bullet proof, it's also good to have a volume/music control on the keyboard.

One hand on the bible, the other on Serb's picture, has anyone noticed any significant benefit a mechanical keyboard brings to gaming over a decent "normal" one?

No real advantage, they just have a nicer feeling when you hit the keys. And probably less wear out.

Because the switches actuate reliably half way down the stroke, and with a pleasant mechanical feedback, a mechanical keyboard can feel a lot more responsive and less mushy.  For me, the performance gain is most noticeable when typing, but I would hate to go back to a cheap kb, even if only for gaming.

I'm a die hard Logitech supporter

Drowned a keyboard in beer once, then washed it in the sink because i was drunk.
Jittered a bit for a few days but once circuits were dry, it was all fine.

That was 12 years ago and i'm still using it lel. It's just so comfy with the wrist support it comes with
