One of the most fond memories i have in this game was when the in-game cross chat still existed, it got removed years ago and there was reasons for it. But i thought it brought life to the game, i remember how i used to stay after i was destroyed, and was just casually chatting with the enemy, the wishing each other luck before the battle, or just talk about random things doing the battle. I found my first clan through in game chatting.

Of course it had it's problems, and that's also why it got removed, like the occasional rage fests cross team, the revealing of locations of other players to the enemy, the "Spies" and so on.

But has there been any words on cross chat again? After it got removed every social aspect of the game is dead, no one chats it's just go to battle, die. Back to garage, take a quick look at the chat to see if there is anything interesting going on, see the same three people insulting spammers, go back to battle again. WoT has basically lost it's spirit, it's just a machine now.

What are your thoughts? you miss it or not? I do i just think they could have done something to moderate the toxicity, like filters to auto chat ban people for an example "Hes on C1" would be a sentence that should have lead to a chat ban, maybe for an hour or so. I hope they can bring it back. I know it's been a long time ago, but still. Bring some life back to the game again WG! Don't make it like Russia, cold and grey :(

There were no valid reasons for removing it.  WG did that so they could avoid actually tackling the issues.

Revealing enemy positions happened rarely and even then didn't really change the outcome of a battle.  Sometimes a draw (i.e. a loss) would become a loss.

Cross chat toxicity barely existed, that was and is still mostly aimed at team mates.

WoT died a little for me when cross team chat was removed. I miss that banter with enemy players.

You guys must have your rose coloured glasses on.

The amount of "friendly banter" and "saying hi to friends" or whatever was totally dwarfed by slurs, griefing, and general toxicity.

Aye you are right but it could be fun poking the griefers.

I suggest you are incorrect.  It's not us having rose tinted glasses, you are just a bit thin skinned and don't see the funny side of a bit of banter.

Because WG's efforts to fight that were basically non existent, so they simply removed the cross chat to save effort and money.

And yes, the game got a lot more boring since then.

In my experience, it was the opposite. But yeah you occasionally got the really toxic match, but it was a rarity, and the black list exist for a reason. I don't think it was necessary to remove the whole chat though. Feels like shooting flies with nukes.

It's gone and I don't miss it. It wasn't as bad as some people remember but neither was it the happy place of fun cross team chat and greetings between cheerful adversaries. The player base hasn't changed that much since it was removed and there are plenty of twats in chat now.

Let's face it
The chat didn't get any less toxic now we don't have cross team chat. So really no improvement made there.

The only thing that is not possible anymore is giving away positions to the enemy team and honestly how often did that happen.
Besides who trusted that Intel? Cuz they often sent you to the exact opposite of where you'd need to be. (I did every now and then)

So in short yes I miss the cross team chat and would love to have it back but... Probably never gonna happen

Indeed. I don't miss it at all - I just remember people spamming chat in their own language, blaming people for killing them and hurling insults before logging off.
People starting whole discussions instead of playing their tank...

I think WG did a proper job getting rid of it- because telling a position makes you not win maybe, but you're taking away the chance for that one surviving player to have his finest hour or get some extra damage/kills. It's basically the only thing I reported people for, that and the gravest of insults.

You don't have to solve problems if you just remove them altogether.

EDIT: To say the game didn't get less toxic with enemy chat off... sorry, but that's just not true. It's still vile at times, but less so than it used to be.

There was some nice things which were possible with inter team chat. Best I remember was when there was in both teams only one Pz. II J standing.  They decided to make peace not war, and clibed together up to Himmelsforf hill to see that town.  That kind of nice things are not possible now.  This is an war game but it was also in real world to surrend, why can't we do it in this game?  Winning and getting credits and xp's is not the only thing have fun, there must be also something else.

I don't remember it being 'social' at all... nor a 'chat' really, just a spew of bad language and nastiness usually... mainly it was just a lot of racial/religious insults, and a lot of 'get cancer' posts...

As an arty player I do miss the whines of my victims, but that's all I miss about it

I miss cross chat it was fun to banter with enemy. They should bring it back because today if enemy is raging you can simply block him and problem solved.

Enemy players who are mad at you, or are accusing you of cheating because they couldn't have been killed in that position, now just wait to send a message after the game. Nothing changed for the better.

I was quite happy when the cross-teams chat was removed, because I don't think I had ever seen anything "social" in it anyway. Meanwhile, however, I have found that playing tier 8 tanks absolutely requires either skin of a hippo or disabled "friendly" chat, and I resorted to the latter, so now I don't care either way.

Had no problem with cross team chat, but I don't even miss it nor the game became less social. You have clan and friends to chat and platoon, you can play SH or TB. All those activity are social. Some are more relaxing, some are more serious, but all of them require contact with other players.
