Is it me, or is every first hit you take a dead-driver?

Couple of matches today. every time I get shot, even by a light caliber gun, my driver dies. Every time arty hits me, at least 2 crewman are hit.... this is getting stupid!

For me it's sometimes driver, sometimes loader, sometimes gunner, occasionally commander or sometimes any two of those, and very rarely all of them.

It's you.

Every first shot on my Type 62 last night was taking my engine.

Maybe it's because most of the time you have your front to the enemy if you are playing correctly?

Depends on what you are driving. Swedish TD's always loses the driver and engine on the first hit to name one. It's more on module placement vs where you are commonly hit.

KV5 Radio operators are not impressed by a few drivers deaths.

More seriously you are experiencing observational bias in action.

Think about how many hits you have had where the drivers did not die. Harder to pin that one down isn't it.

With the RNG in this game you will encounter clusters, where it appears to happen all the time. You notice  the cluster because you are informed about it. At the same time there are runs where it does not happen.

You don't notice his survival because you are not informed he survived. No party, no balloons, no vodka nothing he just keeps doing his job.

The driver dying effects the performance of the tank and thus it registers, but the number of times he doesn't die from hits does not register, because there is no flag / performance change telling you he survived.

The arty getting to double dip stun and kill crew is another matter.

Most common place to shoot in an engagement? Lower glacis!

Where would you find the drivers feet? Behind the lower glacis!

Logic says, driver dies first.

If you were hull down, 90% of the time your Commander would be injured.

Judging by how quickly crewmen aquire xp (or rather, who lags behind the others), drivers seem to die most often. Not surprising, given that you mostly face the enemy with your front and turrets are usually better proteced, so people shoot your hull front and poor drivers always end up protecting their comrades with their body.

Heck, I played the T-34-85M last night, got rushed by a gold spamming Lorr 40t (cuss you really need more then 232 pen vs tier VI-VIII meds XD) he planted 1 shot into my ammorack, turning it orange, I repair, he shoots it again and I do boom. Well, that's 27% chance do dmg for you XD. Also UK ammoracks at high tier seem to get dmg a lot. Why? well because they had some morron design the inside of the tank, which resulted in the dumbest placement of the ammorack one can imagine. At the front, behind the upper glacis... No srsly that must have been designed by someone that hasn't ever used a tank, because that is just dumb.

Still happens much more often than it used to. In the past I surely had games where I didn't use repair & first aid kit. Currently those games seem very rare

Well, he usually sits in the most vulnerable position in the tank, and has a 33% to die from an AP shell going through the hitbox. Arty also loves taking out drivers, guessing the HE usually splashes through the bottom of the tank.

Not sure if it's more common, but I'm pretty sure I take many more risks now, and it doesn't help that arty post-rebalance shoots faster, more accurately and has more splash. An internal explosion from an HE penetration only has a 10% chance of killing the crew member. Wouldn't be too surprised if it was kind of close even for small splashes (which doesn't make any sense, but that's probably a discussion saved for the sticky).
