Erlenberg 1.0 : what's wrong with you devs ?

Fine, I have to say, I hate this map. Is is confusing. It is annoying. It is disgusting.

That's all the whining.

 

Here's why.

 

I am OK with the 1.0 new meta : flat ground, camper friendly. Erlenberg, Fisherman's bay, Fjords. There are many complains about the new meta. It's another story. Let's focus on Erlenberg.

 

To make the map more dynamic, they made the center river crossable everywhere, and reworked completely the center city.

The BIG problem is the city it self.

 

Once you reach it, it's like a maze with ONLY 3 exits : center and both extremities. To make things worse, they put additional rocks everywhere to make sure that you don't try to be smart.

 

In a top tier flat ground heavy, you go to the city and find out enemies are taking hills. You are doomed because

 1. you find your self locked there and no way to cross the open field to help the team

 2. you cannot shoot outside without exposing your entire hull where enemies are hull down.

 

In a low tier medium you with your allies want to kill a Maus / Type 5 heavy in the city

 1. You cannot out maneuver him because he alone is blocking the entire street. Want to flank ? Ok see you in 2 minutes.

 2. You eventually find yourself alone and think "it's time to leave" and take an exit. Sorry it's not an exist, it's a pile of rocks.

 

 

I don't know what come through WG's head to add so many annoying things into the new maps. It's like "we don't have enough time and budget to finish the maps. So let's put some rocks".

So, what's wrong with you devs ? I really find the 1.0 has a "Stop trying to be smart" meta. It's like WG tries to make you understand who's the daddy.

 

That's my thoughts. Maybe the new map is fine and I'm being ridiculous. Please leave your comments.

You are not being ridiculous .... thankfully i managed to avoid the town so far, because i played paper meds/lights but the rest is not much better either.

 

It's a camperfest map and when the meta settles and ppl learn the bushes .... it will suck big time.

Hate this map. Wasn't keen on it before but it feels like they actually managed to make it worse :(

I never played the city on this map, but the hills are also very bad, there are alot of bushes at the edges where evryone camp.

It's still 10x better then the old one. And the new map was made based on whining you lot did on the old map. Like crossing the lake is insta death. Thus the tree line along it. Or the middle is a death trap due to hill campers. Hill gone, middle has more cover. Still not happy?

Elernberg completely lost it's character. Before that you could at least move under hard cover along the west....now they have taken it away by completely flattening the entire left side of the river. Even less to no cover from campers in the north.

I liked the old one. Good for lights and fast meds and made you think.

New one seems much more campy and less dynamic. Its much more difficult to switch flanks and the buildings in the city completely break up vision lines.

My pet hate is the castle on the west flank. Its a trap. South spawn heavies going left at the start hide there when they get sniped from bushes to the north and stay there for the rest of the game.

So if you were are ordered to "jump" would you:

A) walk over to the nearest high rise, take the lift to the roof and jump off; or

B) stand in place and just jump straight up like any sane person?

 

I'd choose to do option B, WG seems to always choose solution along the line of option A....go figure.

The old version of the map was better. The remodel of it is that drastic they should have called it something different. Is new erlenberg better than old windstorm, I dont think so. Removing maps that arent worst than new designs doesnt make sense.

The city part is better than the original but I agree with the op the blocking rocks are very frustrating.

My main concern though are the camping spots in the bases. Making a map where tds have such an advantage is a very bad idea. It promotes static play and thats never good imo.

They have just straight up bastardized (For the twitchy mods this is not a swear word) every single map and if it wasn't for the anniversary event I wouldn't have even been playing at all and this marathon they got for a free tank just isnt worth it in its current base xp state especially with these lameass maps with pockets of lower ground plastered everywhere.

 

They should have a system ingame where they kept both versions of maps and had a tick box of new vs old so people could either pick the new version of a map or the old version to play but hey since when do WG give a rats *** about their playerbase when it comes to design.  Even with straight up negative feedback on major screw ups they just flat out ignore everyone and say they didn't get no bad feedback.

They dont play their one game, or they dont care, or Sergej, the cusin of Victor, who was already working for WG, also got magically employed but is an alcohol addict with not much IQ left.

WG changed stuff, but didn't listen to how they should change it like usual.

The map is terribly bad now. Way worse then before.

Reminds me of when they changed sand river by allowing south access to the middle hill and dropping the height of the middle hill so there is pretty much 0 protection from the dune campers if you have a tall tank such as KV2.

It is the 4th iteration on this map, since it was released.

The only thing constant on this map is it's name the bad design and the whining about it.

At least you can be aggressive on the 8 line from north now to name one. Never gone the middle, never been hit from the middle the 5 times I've seen the map today "all north spawn". Just pushed hard on the 8 line and bully the camping hill on F0. Then push across castle later. As the middle is usually dead by then.

 

And yes.. it's still 10x better "IMO" vs when all your team stretched along the 8 line waiting for damage, no one moved, no one spotted anything for the first 6 min 9 out 10 games. Fantastic. Then it was just down to what team got bored of waiting first and pushed across the middle. So yeah, it's 10x better IMO. It was a big pile of crap before.  New map is still crap. But not even a small pile of crap. It's just crap now, and that's it. Nothing more.

Is it not possible to rework the map so that there are a few dips and rises in the hellishly flat areas, plus the castle is so wide open it is pointless, better than the old one I don't think so.

I like it better now than before. Yes some areas have been flattened but others have more hills you actually have a choice on whether you want to use the east or west side of the map now. Whether it will hold up when everybody knows it well I guess time will tell.
