Premium shells and consumables have been one of the hottest topics on the agenda, and during the upcoming Common Test, we’ll take the first step toward making a key revision to the entire mechanic.

From the WOT news blurb about Update 1.0.1 on Common Test...(it goes on to say that progress will include referencing player's views on the subject, and basically starts from the premise that the amount of premium ammo being fired is excessive.)

I just wondered if the forum were pleased to see a pet hate of theirs getting some attention...or if it's all bound to be a disaster.  I'm of the opinion that it must surely be a good thing - and exciting - though it's an odd way to start tackling it.

Apologies if there's already a thread on this...didn't see it.

In fact nothing changes yet except you can not buy shells with gold anymore...

yeah, I get that...and that's what I said seems an odd way to start tackling things, as I think the view is that making premium ammo available for credits in the first place didn't help with spamming.

I was kind of saying that I thought the playerbase might be pleased to see movement on the issue.

Yes, though experience has taught me to not get too excited until I see something concrete.

Wait, are they making changes based on the use of premium ammo on the test servers or ammo used on live servers?

I thought I remember seeing something about WG stating that premium ammo usage was not that much on live servers a year or two back.

I was just going to say if they were going off the data on the test servers they can't really count that as that is all people load because.... test server.

According to WG I heard only 5% of people fire prem ammo, should be no reason to limit it to 5% of total ammo capacity then if that's the exact number then again WG can throw around any numbers they like because nobody else can say any different.

I also heard the 268v4 is balanced. WG's Ministry of Propaganda does excellent work.

Heck it might actually be underpowered. Guess it needs a buff.

The 5% thing is usual WG truth variant - I expect it probably is true that only 5% of shells fired are gold, across all tiers and all tanks. From Tier VI onwards it's much higher, and Tier X this morning was just 100% gold incoming.

Thing is. As much as we all hate the gold spam, the game is balanced (I use the WG version of the word balanced) around it. Yeah, it's annoying when you're getting blapped my a no skill numpty with gold that he doesn't need to fire, but admit it - as soon as you see a 268-4, Derp-5, Badger, or any of the Russian heavies you double tap the 2 key.

The cry of "OMG flank noob" beloved by the forum tryhards is basically nonsense, because if you examine the map design, there's little to no flanking opportunity on most of them unless it's late game and there's less opposition to worry about. Waiting for the target to present a better target isn't always an option, especially since the game meta is now so quick that you need to be doing as much damage as possible from the off.

If WG wanted to maintain game balance (hur-hur) post changes to gold rounds (and I mean any changes, even slight ones), then they'd have to rebalance all the RU heavies, the high tier Japs, Maus/Mauschen, 183s, Badger, Tortoise, 268s, and countless others.

My guess is that, at most, they'll introduce a hard cap on premium rounds carried of 20% or something, and nothing else. Which will cause high capacity tanks to suddenly be more popular with the gold spammers. The return of the Lowe beckons!

One positive of that change would be the sudden drop in rerolls and bush camping ELC clubbers though.

Well it is a start. Removing the chance to buy gold ammo with actual gold currency stops WG from being opened to requests for refunds etc from players if they change how gold ammo works.

They will if they want a simple solution copy how ammo works in WOT Blitz. Gold ammo basically does more pen but does 15% less damage.

So they making premium ammo not available for gold, can still buy it with credits. Plus nobody buys premium ammo for gold...lol

There are people who buy prem rounds with actual gold. Since they have been purchased with "real money" it is illegal for WG to change a product people bought with real money. so they wait untill all prem ammo bought with gold has been fired so they can remove prem rounds. (at least that is what they said themselves)

Yes I think it is good that WG have addressed the problem of having to change from the default option of buying with gold all the time.

Will they also change the colour of the hitlog notification, since the shells are no longer bought with gold?
