Getting One Shot From Full HP By Same Tier SPG?

Hey,

 

So I can't help but notice since V.1 of this update that I am getting one shot killed from full hp by even an equal tiered SPG and if not outright killed I being severely damaged and crippled. Is this a thing now or is just because I play papery armored tanks? Thing is though I don't ever remember it being this bad and this frequent since SPG got the stun mechanics, so now they both stun and hit like the good old days too?

 

There should be no tank in this game, paper or otherwise getting 1 shot killed by any SPG of any kind or tier, least of all the same tier. Players are really bothered by SPG so why make them even more annoying? I don't get it but maybe I have just been really unlucky.

You play a paper-thin armoured tank, and question why you get one-shotted by an artillery piece with a huge gun and massive shells ?

in yesterdays  session a GW tiger ( tier 9 not quite sure if i got the name right)  1 shotted an enemy T-49 on full speed..... i felt angry on behalf of that T-49

Remember the arty shell ca easily hit the thin roof of a tanks and in a lot of cases at a ver high angle which minimises the effectve angle.  If the HE shell pens then there is going to be a lot of damage.  

 

This is no different than any other tank in the game firing HE. And most other tanks are far more accurage than an arty.

The SPG change was to make then not one shot same tier HT's. Or take off 90% of their HP. They can still one shot same tier lights and open top TD's etc on mid tiers. And not everyone can do that on high tiers. As depending on what hits you ofc. As the French high tier arty has 750 alpha, and not over 1K like the Russian or German that can do that on a high damage roll vs a tier 9 light.

 

Tho considering that most of them need a good pen roll even vs paper tanks to get that full damage roll. So it's still not a 100% sure thing even on a direct hit. As I've not seen that 750 roll much on even a Borsig on my French.

I too have noticed a sharp increase in the amount of arta pens I'm receiving since the new patch.

This may be slightly in part to me grinding the SPIC a lot more

Well maybe I misinterpreted the stun mechanics but I thought the whole idea behind this stun mechanism was to address tanks being 1 shot from SPG? So now SPG can both stun AND 1 shot, nice!!

 

Edit- any reason why WG would do this? Why would you purposefully antagonize and go against the repeated wishes of your clients? What would be the gain?

This is caused by flattering terrain - after 1.0 usually it's much easier to make direct hit, then penetration it's just pure RNG. Once my 268v4 got hit from US tier VIII for about 1k.

that's a good point Sir; and one i had not considered, but it makes sense.  if both the arty and the target are sitting on a flat plane then the shell strike is going to be at an optimal angle thus giving optimal chance for penetration and full damage.  Even having both on flatter terrain may give a small but significant boost to this.

 

an application of the law of unintended consequences perhaps ?

Paper tanks with low hit points have always been one-shotable.  This is not new and is still rare.

Not as rare as you think when you're playing a tank with 15mm of armour everywhere

Just learn what the post-change arty max damage figures are and you won't get surprised anymore. They still pen paper tanks just like before.

Well actually that's a fair point. As if they are on a slope etc facing upwards towards your aim. It's way harder to get a full pen

They halved the damage and reduced the penetration.

 

Personally I would have left the damage alone and given them a nominal 1mm penetration. That way they would still be effective against heavy tanks.

 

As it is we have found that if we want exp then either we have to stun targets our team are about to kill, which does nothing to help the team, or go for soft targets where we can get that oh so satisfying penetration for full damage.

 

And it doesn't matter what you do, lights will always be a priority for arty as long as they are the biggest threat to us.
