Fix how? Your client only shows a representation of what the server says the shell does. With a delay. As why the target explodes before the shell hits it.

If you have a lag spike, or any delay on the communication between you and the server. The client might show it slower then usual. So then vs a moving target, the server might say the shot went in front of him and missed. The client said you hit it. But since the server says you did not. No impact is registered. It's what we call a ghost shell. And is the price we pay to have server side calculations.

Wheels still have a hit box don't they? Unless the delay was only minor vs the server.  And he hit between them and under the tank as you said, but client shows it hitting. But since you hit no hit box. Server still says no.

On the picture you can see that the tracer does actualy go through the hull itself.

I highly doubt that you can explain this with latency issues. Since the shot went pretty much through the middle of his tank, the lag spike would have to be quite high, for this to happen. But I would have seen signs of a higher lag spike (ping dropping / tanks jumping around) and there were absolutely none. He was also not going very fast (approx max of 20 km/h).

But whatever. I mostly just wanted someone to pity me. I was completely frustrated after that match because I barely ever get any luck as arty and it felt so incredibly wrong to loose a good match on this way.

You want the best answers rather than just specualtion?  Post up the replay for people to have a better look.  My guess is either potato PC or potato internet and what YOU seeing not being what the SERVER sees.

My Pc is quite mediocre but around that moment I had more than 60 fps and less than 20 ping.

Shells in game are 1 pixel size, everything else is just an eye candy.

Even so, this pixel clearly went trough the tank on my end.

That's irrelevant.  All that matters is what happens sever side.
