I was going to ask when we will see a somewhat more useful british heavy tank in the shop, but WG apparently got the FSB to listen in on my brainwaves with their secret communist lasers, and put up the FV201 before I could make the thread.

https://eu.wargaming.../specials/8723/

Im not expecting it to be actually good, but is it less horrible than the Churchill Black Prince? Has this been updated/buffed/nerfed since the last time they sold it which apparently was years ago?

It's and interesting tank anyway, being the first real precursor to what became the conqueror and all that.

It's basically a Black Prince that trades most of its armor for some mobility and DPM. The gun is still the same peashooter that is mostly useless on a T7 heavy.

It has the same gun as TOG II with some buffs to gun handling and rof. The TOG is tier 6 and sees max tier 7, fv201 sees tier 9, take a guess if the tank is enjoyable. (150 dmg with 171 pen, 239 with gold)

The gun makes the tank more or less useless, I have had a few enjoyable games in it when you get a chance to play it as top tier.

But even as top tier it is an underwhelming experience, dont buy it would be my advice.

As so many other british tanks, it looks cool but plays like a pos.

It doesn't got 20km/h which already makes it much, much better than the BP imo. The tank overall is still very meh, you're essentially a heavium with the worse aspects of both of those - The mobility and size of a heavy tank with the armour and gun of a medium.

We should eventually get a British tier 8 premium heavy, the Caernarvon AX, which is looking pretty good atm but I'm guessing thats still in supertest purgatory.

It's better then the BP IMO. It traded hull armor for more speed. But hull down or on a ride line, and it's not that bad. Still got the 17 pdr tho. So 171 pen and good ROF and all that. But alpha is still to low.

If they gave it a 20 pdr it would be perfect.

So essentially you play it like any churchill? You hang back in a hulldown posotion and snipe at the enemy with your high ROF peashooter, while your teammates in stronk soviet tanks yell at you and report you for being a bot  :B

But you're fast enough so you can actually get to the fight before it's over?  Totally buying it!

Yeah it does look tempting, just watched Claus kellerman's battle review of it, (best reviewer on the YouTube) in very good hands, it is a beast, better not buy it though as too many have told me how crap I am, even my own clan members it still don't stop em tooning with me though:D

No, it is not a beast in good hands. The tank suck, period.

A good player will always be better off (more beastly) in any other T7 heavy. Maybe except Tiger P and Black Prince and AMX M4 45.

Imagine if the TOG II was smaller, faster, and a tier higher.  That's basically it, bad armour, bad alpha, average pen and good DPM.  Worth getting if you like collecting tanks but don't expect much, can be great if you can hide behind other HTs and shoot targets who are focusing them, but then so can a lot of things lol.

I own it and have had it a number of years. It was viable but power creep has made it near useless as a heavy. I recall when I have used it recently it appears to have a decent view range, i kinda play it like my lowe where it sits as a sentry.

It has a lot of hps for a t7 tank and can be quite a handful for the enemy same tier as the gun will pick away at enemy hps quite rapidly.

Bottom tier though it useless, I just usually assist the most component looking heavy on my team and try and track opponents so it can pile on dmg.

I personally wouldnt recommend buying it though in its current state. But back to your question it probably is better than the bp as its quicker, the bp armour isnt really effective anymore.

Also it has a large flat engine deck at the back that hates arty. I noticed its rareness appears to attract clicker attention too.

!7 pounder, 171 damage with 0.39 accuracy... and you will see tier IX... Good luck with that ! :)

Nowadays it's probably much better than people make of it, it has enough going for it and in tier 7 even a moderately bad heavy tank is usually better than most tanks of the tier. Not that I am going to buy it.
