I was wondering how others feel about recommending this game to a friend.

Let us talk about several problems that I and another face this game step by step.

a)When you are new in-game there is a poor tutorial and lack of information about how you should play. All thous pieces of information you can only find outside game on the forums, youtube and etc.
b)All new players face in this game all good players from the first game who abuse game with their knowledge.
c)What tanks you should play as a new player simply you can`t test tank before you buy it. And how much players even know about test server or should even you download a separate game.
d)Unstable matchmaker. So what I mean by that Wargaming Europe development team always mess up how in general matchmaker works.
e)I feel like its really expensive game. In general game mechanics(matchmaker) and other marketings tricks that make you spend a lot only coz, you want to win more games.

f)Maps look good but I feel like they are not balanced from each side you are at and matchmaker can put you on the same map and same side multiple times in a row.

You can`t always talk about bad parts only so there are good ones too.

a)I love game graphics and engine. The game looks really good and you can play it even on slow pc.
b)Game physics are enjoyable and kinda looks realistic.
c)The game has a lot of content and you always can find something to do.
d)There are a lot of mods that make your playstyle more enjoyable.
e)A game is stable without any vital bugs.

In my opinion, I would not recommend this game to a friend so why is that.

The biggest reason is a matchmaker and how Wargaming Europe development team makes you pay a lot if you want just to be good at this game. I know that to keep the game running it cost a lot. But still, I find myself that I pay too much. I spend like 20euro a month for premium stuff and like 40euro in 3 month period for a premium tank. Please don't tell me about the game is free to play!!!

What would change my mind?
a)Fair matchmaker that doesn't make you spend that much money. Matchmaker has odd priorities for some reason he always you put on the bottom tier. If you want to win more games you can`t play with stock tanks at all you have to upgrade it before you play with it.
b)I hate all thus discounts on premium stuff that makes you buy them only coz they are time to time cheaper why prices can`t be locked without any discounts bonuses that come with it.

If you hate that guy go ahead....

Srsly though if that friend is somebody who likes a challenge and isn't discouraged easily and willing to learn the game mechanics unlike many tomatoes....go ahead and make him try.

My older brother tried to lure me into WoT in 2011. I resisted for a year but I got addicted pretty fast. A couple of years later he quit after having done enough damage.

We don't talk that often...

So... uhm...

Can't really recommend the current state. A matchmaker that only cares about category of tank, but not the type of damage it dishes out or how often, so you get these funny Tiger 131 vs KV-2 matchups, or attempts to balance one team not having a top tier heavy by having more bottom tier ones. Every weekend/event is a huge brain drain where teams are suddenly crewed by zombies. High tiers are a gold mine...literally. Lately the game has started feeling more like some job rather than a fun game to play.

Depends. If it's someone I think will be fun to play with, yes. Otherwise, not really. I have fun, I like playing, but there's some glaring broken stuff that especially lately seems to escalate and deteriorate gameplay. So unless I plan on derping around with someone on low tiers, not really probably.

Sure I would, and give him/her advice on all the noob stuff I did myself so they won't have to repeat them.

Now? Nah, not because the game is bad or anything. But it's just to much to get into at the same time for anyone to be to much focused on it atm.

As for your pointers?

A:  Game has a steep learning curve. A tutorial can only teach you that much vs idle targets like the old one did. Boot camp is still way better, and at least teaches you how to avoid getting spotted, and that you should aim for weakspots and don't attack anything head on you can't pen. Still 10x more then the old tutorials. Even so, the best way to learn this game is by your own mistakes more so then anything.

B: You could say that about any tier. Even new players buying their way to tier 8. And most of them will be as bad or good after they have played 3K games or even 10K for it to matter much. Then again even with the old protection system. Players just made new accounts to bypass it to troll low tiers. So it won't matter.

C: This won't help most understand the game better if they were allowed to test a tier X vs idle targets to decide their line. Low tiers are rather inexpensive. And easy and fast to do. So experimenting there is not hard either to figure out if you like to sit at the back with a big gun, or use your mobility to flank targets etc. Not gonna learn that "testing" tanks.

D: What?

E: I have several mates that don't pay a single cent to WG. Have played 100% free and still have a 56% WR and own more then one tier X. And if you think the MM favors those that pay. Why are you still here?

F: Most are still better then they used to. Tho some still needs minor tweaks.... or be removed completely from high tiers. Like Mines. As that's never gonna be balanced with the mobility and view range high tiers have.

NO.

It's a terrific way to piss away time and money you could have done something useful with. Im here because of my longtime obsession with tanks, but Im not going to drag more people into this swamp than I already have.

I always tell friends about the flaws and problems of a game and then to simply try it out themselves.
That "Hurrdurr game sux don't pley!1"-attitude is childish. WoT is a free to play game, so everyone can come up with his own opinion without paying a single cent.

Yes....

If WoT is stacked against EastEnders, Corrie etc, etc then WoT wins every time.

That's why I play and must admit it can be right funny at times....

I also just mentioned fun, can't for the life of me figure out why folks play if they don't get fun out a pastime.

If I am honest, then I would be very wary of telling friends to play this game. If they weren't serious about learning at least some of the finer points, I would wish for them to steer clear completely rather than just being another empty turret!

How about you just tell them to download it and try it out for themselves since it's free to do so and let them make their own mind up? Just offering it up as a suggestion since it appears that was that too difficult to think of by yourself.
