Unfortunately, you're right. It's seriously underpowered.

It isn't underpowered from my perspective

It has good armour and a fast firing gun that is adequate for it's tier and still does damage the tier above it

By far the worst gun of all standard tier 5 mediums with one of the worst mobility on top of it. Armor works only against tier 4s and some tier 5s, and it has no health pool, so it cant play like a heavy either.

Utter trash unless you get to shat on tier 4s.

I find it just average other than the high pen HE shells I found the lower tiers worse.

Just have to keep grinding till I  get to tier 8 at least then I can say the tank is good but the MM is awful.

Checked the stats on the different guns and it seems that you don't get much from getting the top gun. Has anyone tried using the second gun instead? You lose a bit of AP and HEAT pen but you still have that high HE pen.

Seems to me that it might be a better choice if you manage to flank mediums and pen them with HE.

Tried it and decided to stick with the top gun. The HE is still good fun but you're meeting more tanks that can stop you from getting a full pen hit and the tank doesn't have the mobility to easily find shots into sides. Plus the muzzle brake looks like an industrial fleshlight and that makes me giggle. :teethhappy:

I was thinking more in the lines of shooting up at the hill on prohvkorovka/fiery salient than trying to circle tanks. The muzzle brake is one of the reasons I don't want to use that gun.

This tank was so tedious to play. Managed to have some 1800+Dmg games but every shot in this tank feels like shredding hp from oponents. Not mobile, crap guns can bounce sometimes but its not a thing to rely on... it has very good radio range though. You cam shot far targets... but your 0,4 dispersion wont help. Im glad ive finished this tank today. Tier 6 is better from the moment of getting top gun. Till that moment feels like bit faster tier 5. Horrid grind in this line so far. Tiers 1-3 were ok, after that it gets much worse with these 0,4 guns... tier 8 getting closer and closer wih every game though!

Worst tier 5 medium I ever played. I have tier 5 tanks I did better in when I was new player.

I'll be honest, I was very close to last week joining in the chorus here about this tanks dubious in-game performance. Especially around the gun handling and its soft stats, feeling almost impotent in multiple battles with insignificant to near 0 damage done. It did feel like a big step down from the tier 4.

However, after knuckling down whilst I've been grinding my way tier 6 in the line, I have to say I've noticed a significant improvement.

Now, I can't fully rule out luck in this case (though i'm sure it plays a significant part), the problem is gauging how much.

But, the only other factor I can pin it on (via observation) is the basic crew skill, incrementally increasing with each successive game.

As I type this, I've just walked away from a tier 7 game with an Oskin's medal, where the commander is sitting at 87% and crew at 96% basic skill (yes ofc i'm happy and no i wasn't expecting it when i hit that battle button, judging by my past performance in this tank).

I have the suspicion that this vehicle might suffer a lot more visibly, performance wise from an untrained crew than most. Based on that assumption, I would say give it time for the crew to train-up (...or shell out & send them to the academy) and in the meantime get used to the tank, learning the mechanics of what situations it performs best/worst in for you, whilst in-game.

Regarding the armour layout, I have yet to figure out how to fully utilise it best...but, if you have the high ground looking down on opponents shooting up, you do get a lot of ricochets/non-pens with that sloped back glacis, mantlet isn't too bad either. 80mm full front is very good for this tier on paper along with 50mm side/rear make it better than the T-34 all round. The size of the forward sprockets make me slightly hesitant to peak/angle fighting around corners when i have to though, even with those well angled plates. The potential to get perma-tracked is a concern here. The forward turret placement makes side scrapping quite awkward as an alternative in my opinion.

Hope the above lays out the some of the pro's or con's I've tried to identify, when getting to grips with this initially troublesome tier 5.

Being somewhat useful for others having teething issues.

my very first battle in this (stock), it bounced off 2900+ enemy dmg... but not a single battle since then have been much joy.. nor bounced away much if anything at all.. seem i used up a lifetime of deflections in one battle :/

Remember the golden rule:-

Image result for facts not opinions

tankchart_italy_p_43_10_5_won_lost_ratio

After initial play by good players running Italian line its settling  down to around 53%. There is a graph somewhere where it show you reference of tank winrate vs player winrate also but Idk where that is.

Its old story, if your win rate in tank is lower than server avg then you are doing something wrong. Me in that feck UDES for example. Watch vids and find out what you are doing wrong and fix it.

Hint - rage spout on forum will not help.

I just edited my entire post ;-)

P 43 is far from being the worst tier5 medium. I don't play tier5 anymore in general, this one is a keeper. I am GuP biased weeb but still its not that bad tank as some people think it is.

Lets start with what this vehicle can offer.

+ decent armor for a tier5 - 80 sloped on hull and turret, effectively 100 in most areas according tanks.gg

+ 10 degrees of gun depression

+ decent pene of 118 on AP

- mediocre mobility, but its more mobile than P 43 bis

- bad aiming time on the top gun, with bad accuracy and dispersion without using equipment, bia, food.

- worst pene on APCR of 146. With aiming at weak spots it should pene most tier 6 heavies, with exception being "balanced" anime heavies

Armor

In short: Against tier4 its basically a heavy tank. You can easily stay exposed to tier4 guns and eat the poor beings. Against tier5 it can bounce more on medium to longer range when shells loose some of their pene, but it can bounce occasional shot even on brawling range when you least expect it. On longer range it can bounce something like a cromwell.

Gun

118 standart pene is decent, more than 6 pdr of crusader, 7,5 mm of PZ IV H, 57mm of T-34. DPM is OKish.

basic accuracy and dispersion are bad, but with BiA, gun laying drive, food, the accuracy/dispersion is 0,37/0,36

Some gun characteristics are same as on cromwell

Dispersion on moving, tank traverse, turret traverse, after firing. Shell velocity is 775 compared to cromwells 785

I choosed cromwell as comparison because its also tank that can miss ridiculous shots and isnt most precise.

In my opinion quite balanced tier 5 tank, but it could really use small buff in accuracy - 0,2 would be enough, and top gun could have - 1 second aiming time.

Final verdict: Mediocre medium with ok gun that can bounce a few shots when you least expect it, heavy tank against tier 4.

Three marked this today and pretty much agree with this alcoholic character.

I would just say that for me the gun handling is a bit of a deal breaker and sucks the fun out of it. I prefer the Progetto / Leopard type of paper MTs that are mobile and have good gun handling. The P.43 is pretty much the opposite of that. Might be good for beginners.
