Does the M44 represent the rest of the US SPG's?

I decided to grind an SPG line again for some missions (the 212A was disappointing so I wanted to stop using it)

The only other SPG line in which I found the tier 5-6 to be decent enough to grind was the 'Muricans. And I have to say, the M44 is a very pleasant little SPG.

It's also known for being quite powerful. So that got me thinking: are the rest of the SPG's as comfortable as the M44 or are they worse/less comfortable/countering the core values of the M44 (i.e. good gun arc, relatively short reload for relatively large hits, quite mobile)?

And I know the M53/M55 was quite the powerhouse too, is it worth it to stick to tier 9 since the arty nerf, or is grinding on to the T92 HMC worth it now? And are the M12 and M40/M43 good too or are they quite weak?

I hope someone experienced can help, as the US arty line used to be the most comfortable line to grind.

TL;DR the arty nerf changed the M44 quite significantly and I was wondering if the rest of the line has the same 'issue'.

Yep, US line is very flexible.

Stick at tier 9 with the M53/55 and you can do all the missions with the stock gun which is better in my opinion as it's more accurate and faster reloading. With the same DPM it gives you more chances to score for missions as you get more shots.

Also for the Object 260?  IIRC the "new" missions revolve largely around stunning which seems easier with a bigger gun. I'm no arty expert so if that's false, thanks for the advice ;)

Putting the original gun on, for a few rounds.

Thanks for the tip.

M53/55 is indeed a very nice SPG (also have the Tier 10, but that is a drag. Nowhere near the performance of the M53/55).

Tbh, the tier 6 is the only one that's close to it's old pre nerf "effectiveness" out of any arty. And is arguably a bit strong for it's tier still.

Tier 7 is the weakest one in the line IMO. And no need for the tier 8 when the tier 9 does it better. Tier 9 is the one to go for if you want to do missions. As both guns works on it. Stock gun is great for stun farms due to the low alpha that gives a fast reload. Top gun works for group stun & damage farming missions. I was on the tier 9 when the arty change hit. And I did like it better after it.

IMO top gun is better but way harder to use.

I found out that stun is not long enough on the stock gun to get my team to do anything useful with it. If you time your shots well with the big gun, it's hard not to get loads of stun and assist damage. You are stunning more targets and for much longer so longer reload kinda doesn't matter.

On top of that, you can do quite lot of damage by yourself with it while 155 mm is underperforming - it barely does any damage to superheavies, it never pens (top gun has 52 mm of penetration - enough to pen a lot of tank through their roofs). And 8-inch is way better at shutting down light tanks and Skorpions G :D

With the stock gun you are reloading faster, aiming faster and firing faster so all in all you're getting to put more shots out than you would with the big gun and the tradeoff of for that is reduced damage.. but that reduced damage is counteracted by being able to reload/aim/shoot more anyway.

You should know which vehicle you are aiming at, since different lines are better for different tier.

US line has a good m44 and m53/55 arties.

However, tier10 is not as good as obj261 or GC, imho.

Personally, I kept, m44, m53/55, Obj261 and tier9 BC-155 arty.

I only kept one high tier arty for missions and I plumped for the FV 3805 so I can't comment on 260 suitability for the M53/55. But I know plenty of people who used it for the 260 so I guess it's fine.

I can't really see the point of going for the T92. I did unlock it and played it a few games for the missions and it was worse than tme M53/55 in my opinion.

I finished the arty missions with the M53/M55 but I did use the big gun for the last mission.

Yes, it does represent the whole line:

-You still have the same boring gameplay all the way up to tier 10.

-You will be loved by every opponent.

-You will be part of the class that is ruining the game.

One of the above-mentioned points was a lie.

M12 is now quite playable, was too slow to reload before rebalance.   I didn't enjoy the T92 at all.  On both M40/M43 and M53/M55 I used both guns depending on what the mission was (and how I fancied playing it).   I imagine the reason to play the T92 is that Grand Battles  would make some missions easier to hit.   However I have now completed honours on the first 45 missions and I haven't unlocked the Obj260 missions yet (or any time soon), so I'm not pushing them too hard at the moment.

Updates:

Thanks for all the feedback. I've unlocked the M12 and bought it, it's not even a terrible thing to play imho. I do not have the big gun and the load capacity was low for equipment so it should be quite comfortable. If not, I'll speedgrind the M40. Bottom tier MM isn't that annoying in arty hence I can use boosters ;)
