Ok I was just generally musing about and thinking of the announcement Kandly made back in February regarding the hated Defender, and that it will not be back on the Eu server anytime in the near future.

In the WG universe, what does the term near future mean (well at least I think it was the near future)

I think for all those who say WG does not listen, you may have been proven wrong:mellow:

In this case, I hope near future has the same meaning of WG's soon™!

At the moment I think the cynical/realist money is on it turning up as a Christmas box prize later this year. I can't see it going on general sale again soon, although I haven't played mine in forever so it might not be quite as silly as it was. The few I've seen in battles today playing the Prosecco haven't done particularly well but that could be for any number of reasons.

Well they still refused when the other servers sold them here not to long ago. But I'm willing to bet on Xmas to. Or maybe eve next years anniversary. Tho personally I hope at least until the current meta ends. Take the SU-76i for instance they removed from sale the same day. It was rather OP when it came in terms of armor "tho WG said it was due to the gun". As it has enough to bounce most guns tier III had back in the day. Now most new tanks added there, inc gift tanks like the T29 have 60 to 70 pen, vs 33 to 48 like most had then. So they can easily damage it on an average roll. So it's not as versatile as it once was, and it's actually harder to carry in it now. So.. at least until that shift happens to the defender. But I doubt it.

They gave away the Type59 so it's now no longer special. That means that they'll be needing a new bait tank for events and the Defender will fit that just nicely.

Just make sure you buy the Czog (sp) when it comes out and you'll never think about Defender again :)

I really don't understand the whine that this vehicle generates.

I think it's less of a whine and more of a whir, the sound of the gears rotating in the OP's head in formulating his cunning plan to ramp up sympathy for all those afflicted by not having a Defender in the garage.

Indeed it's perfectly normal to have what is effectively an IS-7 frontal hull (Tier 10) on tier 8 with a gun that has a higher alpha than the competition (440 => 390) with very competitive DPM *AND* more gun depression than the IS-3 *AND* smaller weak spots.

It's weird how people think that the tank is broken/overpowered indeed!

Now now Cobra...I know you to be a vocal critic on the introduction of the vehicle, and I normally respect your opinion, but where are the marauding defenders raping the battlefield and surviving to carry matches against overwhelming odds?  I have way more difficulty killing an obj 257, as I have difficulty tracking and damaging that vehicle.  And I have no trouble penning the lower front plate of a defender.  I just don't get it.

Nothing special about that tank even more as much game changes every patch, you have to be a "notsmart" to buy a new premium just cos its feels OP.  As mentionedT29 was feared by all in old days, now with all changes its yet another joke of a HT....i rememmer when Ferdi was OP as op can be even more JT when they released it. Now both of them are a pretty huge joke as all new changes and new tanks can pen it easy with standart ammo.  As much as ive met defenders, dont see whats so special about it.

WG strategy: release more OP tanks than Defender (like Obj.268v4) so that the Defender doesnt feels (too) OP anymore, providing WG the window to sell them again in the near future. :coin:

Thing is...Defender has better frontal armor compared with 257 : thicker lower plate, as for the upper plate..it's the same thickness with better effective values due to different angles. Also, Defender has better gun depression  (-6 vs -5).

I recently started to play with 257..i'm preety happy with the gun handling, it's really good for russian standards. Also, APCR as default ammo is a plus. One thing that i tried is : if you cannot stay hull down...make them shoot your side. It works, because the tank has retarded side armor.

Regarding the incoming polish tier 8 heavy...yeah, i think it will be one of the best tier 8 HT. OP? In some scenarios yes, since it will be impenetrable when hull down.  But to be honest, as long as TVP VTU is in the game....i'm not too concerned.

(a) The new Polish premium heavy at tier VIII on super test (if the stats remain) will power creep the Defender/Object 252U badly,

(b) Defender/Object 252U on EU in Christmas crates come December 2018.

The novelty wore off but that doesn't make the vehicle any less broken, heck just look at tier 8 skirmishes.

The 257 was a mistake but an entirely different one which is not that relevant but basically Wargaming has been teaching their players that you shoot Russian tanks in between the tracks to damage them and not above the tracks for 8 years and then they introduce a vehicle which is entirely the other way around which is just dumb.

The community is using a vehicle which is superior in competitive gameplay?!  What do you expect?  Should all released vehicles be weaker than the existing vehicles?  And since players are conditioned to shoot a certain type of tank in certain regions, why not introduce a tank that mixes that up?  I don't understand your reasoning.  It seems like a perfectly good way to release a tank with a competitive advantage that forces players to adapt if they wish to remain competitive.  I think a continuously changing meta is a good way to keep players interested and churn the grind response.

Yeah, how silly of cobra to claim that a tank that pretty much gives everyone +3-8% wr to be op.

Also, I have way easier to deal with a 257 as a tier 8/9 than I have against the defender as a tier 7/8.
