I have a few Tier8s to chose from, well actually all the US Tier8s apart from the Mutant and T95E2.   I tried the mode twice using M40/43 and Patriot with a brief bit of T92 but I've now actually read how the mode works and wondered if it was a chance to take a few others out.

So rather that "What's the best tank for Frontline?", I'm more asking, "What tanks are a really bad choice?"    I'd love to give my rather dusty T8 TDs a run out, but I'm not sure if either is ideal.  I have a heap of meds as well to pick from as well, though I need to move a commander into the T69 from somewhere.

What do you think or do you want to suggest to more to avoid from other nations?

The map is huge, slow tanks are not really good because of that.

This. T28s in particular will waste a lot of time just getting into combat even with their buffed mobility. Same goes for most superheavies, the armor may be effective, but getting into the action often just takes too long.

It's especially true for the defending team as their spawns are further away from the combat zones, and they have to retreat from a lost zone.

I also advise using premium tanks if you want to make credits out of it, if you're not running premium tanks, odds are you are not going to like the bill at the end of it.

Well I could try T92, Super Pershing, Patton KR, T25Pilot, T35, Patriot or Chysler :child:

I switched to manly light tanks. They are mobile enought and the firepower is also decent. There will always be enought nubs who wants to brawl at the main flank.

Only way to figure that out is it try it. Not seen many T28 etc. But the few I've seen have been rather useless early on. But great for defending the turrets or the push for them late game. I did try the T95E2 with mixed results. Not even touched my T25 Pilot on this server, so no idea. Seen many Patriots and T26E4's do well. Can't say I've seen a T92 either. But ELC even 90 was great to farm General rank fast with as the defenders. As my record is 16K assist.

I can't really say I've noted too many tanks that don't work in Frontline. Even the KR Patton does well. Low pen isn't an issue when that one VK 100 is getting creamed from all sides thanks to the large maps.

They are good if you on the defending side...but until you press the button you don't know.

Had some nice game yesterday with Ferdinand,

defending the last objectives.

but as others have written, mobility is the key in this mode.

I saw a Tog III, the new upcoming tier 8 premium British super heavy tank. It almost fit on the map.

Anyway, most Muricans are pretty decent. Heavies are okay for defending and pushing over the ridge lines. You have to anticipate a bit more about where you'll need to be because of the longer travel times. Have seen some mediums and lights do well. The td's are a bit too slow. Still useful in the last line of defense. Seen two T28 Prots do really well, have seen more T28's on the battlefield... but out in the open and they tend to be farmed quickly.

T69 would be good for the final phase in the city. Otherwise the map offers enough ridges and hills to use the American heavies effectively. The main problem is that the m26 Pershing is kinda meh, when compared to other meds and the Bulldog also isn't the cream of the crop. The best tanks for me are mobile TDs (WZ-120, Skorp, STRV, Charioteer, UDES, JP II) firepower-focused meds (Progetto and Lorraine, since they are accurate autoloaders; TVP and Indienpanzer, because of their nice DPM and good guns), and finally fast heavies (IS-3 and Objekt 252). The Caernavon is great for defending, when outnumbered, but it is an exception, since it does 3k DPM, with great gun stats.

A lot of players like to use the King Tiger and Löwe, but these tanks are somewhat situational and don't have the all-round armor for such a big map. The T32 is also used a lot, as is the T-44, both as the FL version. They are mediocre tanks with acceptable performance. As said by others, tanks to avoid, are any vehicles that can't go 30+ kph. I have also found that camo does more for your survivability than armor.

Finally, it really depends on you style. The map offers plenty of approaches to combat and thus will have something in store for just about anyone. The one thing I have noticed that consistently doesn't work is passive camping. An elastic defence is much more viable, otherwise you will get flanked, spotted, and quickly shot to pieces. Oh, and don't use the AMX 50 100, which I have been seeing so often in the mode. It becomes a prime target for everyone, the second it is spotted.

You need one to deal with the Defenders, you know.

It's situational.

If attacking I always start with the VK100.01 P. I drive straight to the capture point and sit there letting the enemy focus on me while my team kill them. I've seen too many games where everyone is in a med and just sit in a sniper position for 10 mins hoping someone else tries to cap. You need to create momentum as soon as the game starts.

Why on earth would anyone play arty in Frontline.

Due to the size & dynamic of the map, I feel there's no real 'bad choice' for tanks to use in Frontline. In randoms some tanks are bad, because they got a very niche use & the opportunity in randoms rarely appears, while in the frontline map, the map's so big & the battles so varied that there is always some spot somewhere that can serve your tank.

No one here has presented a case for playing arty in Frontline. Why bring it up, then? It's obvious that you're against it, but you provide no argumentation as to why...
