Enjoying Frontline immensely but wanted to see if anyone agrees camo/spotting isn't quite the same as random?

I feel I'm getting spotted much more often at unexpectedly long distances   :bush:

I wanted to say the same thing.  It really does seem like the view/camo system works slightly differently in FL.  Quite a few times I found myself getting spotted in high camo tanks where I really didn't think I would be.  Could be the feels.

Good point.  I really should read up more on the game mode.  D'oh.

And dont forget there is more possible people that would be able to get line of sight on you, and the map is quite dynamic so alot of locations they could do that from.

The recon planes are fun against those stealthy folks on those bushy hills. I make use of those recon planes when I can. Nobody expects the KV-4 at the edge of their viewrange to 'spot' them:great:

Also, keep in mind, the map is large & sneaky lights can thereby end up at unexpected spots when they find a crack in your view line defenses. Seen enemy light tanks at some odd locations (sometimes behind our lines) because not all dicthes & areas were covered against sneaky spotting tanks.

And keep in mind that a recon plane can get you spotted by 30 or 40sec straight. I lost count to how many times I got deleted because I got spotted and pulled back for around 10sec and once I got into position again I go shot from all different directions...

I have the impression that most of the bushes in frontline mode are simple cosmetic bushes that do not provide camo bonus. Maybe this was a concession to the large map size, as every bush needs to be calculated by the server and the server performance is already quite limited in frontline...

Any feedback from WG to this topic?

Do you get some special notification if you get spotted by air recon?

Also, how do you use air recon?

For Frontline you get to choose 1 Combat Reserve, it's like an extra consumable. There are... 6 options I think, Recon Plane is one of them. I am unsure how the targeting works though as I haven't tried this one myself yet.

I admit in the first couple of games I played, I seemed to get spotted out of nowhere and was like, "Wtf?" - even though I was actually using the recon planes myself. :teethhappy:

It does take a little while to have the existence of new mechanics ingrained fully along with the old ones~

Is there a method to spot the recon planes by the way? Do they physically fly over?

From what I've seen when allied recon planes are targeted you get this pattern drawn on the ground that marks the path, but don't see that for the enemy ones (would make it a bit easy).

Yeah, I manged that part. When I click on my recon planes I get a big green box on the mini map. But I have no idea how to move that box or how to launch the planes.

Odd, for me it works like artillery. I select the recon plane, I get the 'artillery' overview' & move it around like normal in arty view, then select where the planes go (like firing arty). best do this behind cover/in safety due to this.

Note, I use the recon plane in my HT's.

Only way is to see them approach in the distance if you look up, or when you see the shadow of one passing over you, you might be spotted. As the recon plane model differs from the bomber one. You don't see them on the map or get a warning. Tho the issue is.. if you play without 6th sense that many might to in the FL tanks. Just because you see one, don't indicate you are spotted. As they only spot a small section of their flight path, not all of it.  It might already have passed it when he get to you if you are further back after spawning etc. If you are up front. Chances are your group is lit up.
