Guys,

Is there a way to improve at least a bit of the mobility of this "tank"? Reduce aim-time or alpha, whatever.

Please, Lord of WG, hear my prayers and help the Cause. This tank makes me wanna drown myself.

P.S: How to play this shittt?

It is what you have to endure to honor the TD you are after properly!

The way to play it is to go hulldown.

It's got a good gun and when used properly is hard to hit.

Poke, shoot, pull back, repeat.

If you have the top gun on it you will enjoy it much better, having such a powerful gun will make peeps fear you once you slap'em with that 490 alpha

This vehicle is by far the worst I've played in this game, compared to its tier.

Suggest using free exp to get over it. RHM  Waffenträger is worth of that.

I'm about 20 battles from unlocking it. Is it about the same as Nashorn and the Pz.SflIVc? I haven't done too bad in those.

Playstyle is similar. Stay at range, hit them hard.

Only with harder hitting gun, and epic gun dep.

I actually preferred the Sturer to my RhmBorsig, which can't use hard cover effectively (no gun dep and front and back both stick out around corners)

As Samuel says, with the top gun it becomes quite effective, although by the time you get that you will hate the tank so much you will want to get rid of it anyway, unless you are one of those rare people who enjoys playing a slow, sluggish, paper-armour, turret-less TD with a grind to the next tier that feels like eternity.

The main purpose of the ST Emil is to test your patience to breaking point, so that you spend some real money to free exp through to the RhmB (which is a very nice tank).

I intensely disliked the Nashorn and St.Emil as well, there's only one way to really play them, as Baldrickk described. Since you really can't take any hits, you have to be patient and take shots that you can, not shots you think might draw counterfire. The advantage of a hard hitting gun is that you only need a few good shots to be effective in a match.

Also, use the difference between max spot range and max draw range when you can, 'cause if you get spotted still slugging it up a ridge to aim, people start aiming for you 'cause everyone knows they can pen you. Pretty sure the basic game UI lets you turn on the range circles on the minimap these days (used to be a mod thing).

Nowhere near the same.

- Bigger, much bigger.

- Slower, much slower. Flak Bus (Pz.SflIVc) does 60 km/h, Nashorn does 40 km/h. This barely reaches 25 km/h. Downhill. With a tail wind and a bunch of fat guys in the back.

- Horrible HP/ton, nearly half that of the Flak Bus.

- Worse hull traverse.

Put simply this tank goes nowhere in a hurry. It is like a superheavy without the benefits of armour and HP. Once you commit to a flank that is it. If you pick the wrong side then it is GG WP. You're either too slow to deal any meaningful damage or you cannot relocate if the flank collapses. If arty finds you, have fun.

As for the gun; folks like to talk about the -15 gun depression and the alpha but forget to mention the 5 degrees of gun traverse. Camo net, binocs and GLD are a waste on this thing as you are constantly having to adjust your hull because you can't track a tank that doesn't drive straight at you. It doesn't have a premium shell either. 231 pen is awesome in tier 7 and as top tier, but quickly becomes a problem when tier 8s and 9s show up. You either bounce your AP shell or fling HE. And here is the next problem; it only carries 15 shells. Make those shots count.

The Nashorn and Flak Bus were so much better owing to their mobility.

Play it like a Dicker Max on roids.  Use gun depression to give your enemies the slightest sliver of tank to shoot at over hills.  RIP on city maps or when multiple arty are in play.

Well, then again, the closest similarity of the st emil other than the D.max would be with the toaster equiped w/top gun(194 pen at tier V ftw).

Now that was fun to play

It's actually quite fun to play on non-city-maps, due to the gun depression. Half of the visible hitbox is your gun, the other half is very hard to hit. It's basically a German Ikea TD.

In the sense that when you take it out of your garage, you wonder why there's one screw left on the ground?

Kind of. But at least it's made of real steel instead of tinfoil veneer filled with pressed metal shavings

First, get the top gun. It's horrible without it. Free exp the gun if needed. I even paid some gold to get it.

After that it's all about finding ridges that allow you to use the depression and just pre aim behind ridge, peek and smack that 490 alpha at some unsuspecting poor tank. It's hilarious when it works.

And as a bonus you get ace tanker every time you do five damaging shots. Which obviously anyone with half a brain can do on most maps.

Not really. Stock gun is worse then the top gun on Nashorn. So expect a nasty stock grind. But the top gun makes the bad effort worth it IMO.

You have enough gun depression to hit your own lower plate almost. So this is more of a ride line fighter on the 2nd line to make the profile as small as possible, and use that high alpha to smack anything that moves. Mobility is way lower then those two before it tho. That and the ammo capacity on the top gun is only 12. So better make each hit count. If I had to compare it to anything. It's not like a Nashorn one tier up. It's like if the SU-100Y and D-max had a baby one tier up.

Tbh, I do to. I actually like the St.Emil. And it has done more TD missions then my Borsig. It's a great TD if you get to play the 2nd line support role effectively them most other tier 7 TD's IMO. And the alpha makes it not bad on urban maps either. Even if you have to trade 1 shot for 1.
