Hi guys,

I'm still very much inexperienced and unknowledgeable on this game mode apart from the mission objectives and how the map looks roughly with just 3 battles under my belt but my question is this. I have a few tier8 tanks unlocked and I was thinking of using this game mode as potentially a great way to grind out what would be almost completely stock tanks.

1. Is this a viable and faster grind option?

2. How is the xp gains allocated when several other tanks are probably going to be used?

3. Is using the desired grind tank at the point of battles end important to getting the xp on that tank or is the xp gains allocated solely to which tank did what dmg etc?

Thanks

If you have no interest in winning or actually playing for the objective, it's a great way to grind silver and EXP. Just hang back and snipe away if you enjoy that way of playing...

If you want to play properly, you'll have a problem if you use non-elite tanks, because you'll meet a lot more OP and padding tanks. There are Defenders and Skorpions everywhere.

I only played 7 matches on that mode, but I think I can't be that wrong.

I know that if you get to the general rank you will get a 200% XP increase. If you can manage to get that rank every so often your grind will be fast. If you can not manage this I think it's faster to play randoms.

The XP that a tank earns is allocated to that tank.

So if you play your stock Whatever and get one shotted before you've done anything then you'll make virtually no progress in that tank - just the same as if that happened in a Random.

My advice would be try it and see if you like it.  You've nothing to lose really.

I'd advise you Free-XP the most important modules (gun, turret, engine, etc.) and then use FL to grind through to the tier 9.

If you have 2 tier 8s, (I have the the SU-101 and the T-44) then you should be able to just alternate between them.  When one gets destroyed switch to the other and visa versa.

The biggest problem you'll have is if the tanks you're planning to grind are bad tanks.  You probably won't do awesome in the TVP VTU, but that's because it's crap, not because there's anything wrong with the idea.

1: Depends. Most use strong HT's etc there. Like the Patriot, VK 100.01, Defender, AMX M4 etc. If you can't pen those stock. Then no. It's not a viable and faster grind option if it's a HT vs faster randoms games tbh. As there you can still get 700 on a "meh" game that lasts 4-5 min vs trying to get 500 defending for 15 minutes vs targets you can't really pen etc. As T32 FT is not that widely used vs what I expected vs other HT's. And XP is also based on your rank. So the higher your rank, the more XP bonus you get. As General gives 2x more for each tank. So unless you get General often. It's not that much faster IMO.

2: Tanks get what they do on their own, not as a group. As one of my grinds only got 400 one game after it got ammo racked on the first hit with min damage done. Even tho I got over 2000 xp combined on 3 tanks on the score, and got a 2x due to a General rank. So again, if you do poorly in that tank all the time due to a bad gun etc. It's really way slower then randoms.

3: As said in point 2, tank gets XP based on what he did alone. Not what you did do combined. So when you use it has no say in it.

I've played my Stock Emil I a few rounds and gotten the engine and track on it. But I got 1500 ish each game. As I got one of the top 3 ranks by using my premium meds, inc the Italian to farm way more effective damage to get that rank. Vs just playing a stock grind all the time. So if you do fairly fine in one, and do really good in your next spawn. The effect for the stock one will be more beneficial.

I mean just try. If you get sub 1K every game for 20 min work inc the rank bonus. Then no. If you get more, then sure. Why not. At least your WR is not affected by grinding a crap stock grind.

No. Best and fast grind is, be in front line. Go for spot dmg. Work with 2-3 tanjs in same time

Point - you will get fast battles 2-5 min with avg. Exp 300-600. Its more in long terms - 1 battle with avg.exp 800-1200 8-12 min

But get back stats will be hard

Beware of using a lot of prem ammo as you will pay every time you resupply, and that can add up very quickly.  Having said that, I have accepted that some stock guns need to be fed prem ammo, and will alternate with FL matches using only prem tanks to pay for it.

Thanks for the analysis guys, guess I won't try to grind the Centurion on FL (my only active T8 grind). On the other hand, if all the T8s are in FL, what is that going to do to T8 MM? It would be nice to think top tier would be more common, but cynic that I am I am sure it will be the reverse.

I was thinking about starting new crews in Tier8s I 've abandoned but I had a hideous idea of starting the full stock T28 Prot. in FL.

I don't think that will possibly work as easy as playing any other Tier8. A friend is grinding a stock Pershing and I don't think it's a pleasant

experience. Imagine a slow Tier8 TD with 90mm gun. I run XP boosters but this is going to be horrid and painful.

Well, depends. Ypu can get exp from capping, there's plenty of soft targets and the last targets are pennable with stockguns too, so...

yeah, I guess. Better than facing tier x with stock tank.

Great if you don't want a crap tank ruining any stats you're worried about.  I will be grinding the hopeless TVP VTU while playing my STRV and T26e5 for making money.

Sorry if this has been asked before but do personal reserves work in fl mode?

For me it wasn't faster, nor less painfull. I liked the frontline on testserver, but the campy, selfish gameplay on live server is annoying.

Decent game gives me 50% rank bonus, but for 20 min gameplay 1-2k exp... not faster than randoms

Frontline gives very good exp if you die very little, and achieve general rank. With personal reserves you grind pretty fast.

Well I for one (and most will be glad of this) have never been in FL, don't even know how to enter it, would a Lowe or my now elite IS3 be eligible, in fact can elite/non elite tanks rather than premium tanks even enter at all?

From the mode selection tab to the right of the "Battle" button, select Frontline instead of Random.

Yes, you can choose whichever tier 8 you like, premium or not, as long as it has a crew on it.

Ok thanks for that

There are pro's and cons with stock/partially upgraded tanks.

Pro's - You're fighting only tier 8's, and with so many tanks on the battlefield there are plenty of soft ones to shoot if you dont have great pen

There are combat reserves which give you the ability to do damage and assist while being behind cover/out of the crosshairs regardless of the modules on your vehicle (lights get 3 of these, TD's 2, Meds/Heavies 1, dunno about scumbags)

Leveling up battle rank provides an XP multiplier

Plenty of inexperienced players driving around aimlessly in FL rental tanks to shoot

Con's - You're fighting only tier 8's, so less xp than if you were damaging higher tiers

Plenty of inexperienced players driving around aimlessly in FL rental tanks that cost you wins

Depending on the tanks involved, I would suggest playing only 1 grind tank per frontline battle, try to complement it with at least 1 solid tier 8 with good crew that you can chase that XP multiplier with.

Since it is T VIII, I would be grind the crew skills only.
