Because tracks are the only module that takes damage 100% of the time when you hit it. Vs 27% like on the ammo rack etc. If his AP shells module damage "that's not the same as alpha damage" is greater then your track HP. Then no.. it's not impossible. It's why the term "perma tracked" was invented.

How is it possible to take 300 damage from a shell that does 300 damage? Is that a Zen question?

But shooting through the drive wheel will track you and assuming they have enough penetration, the shells will continue through your hull to cause damage. You don't have be be shot in the track itself to be tracked.

...some tanks have hull armor behind the tracks, you know :hiding: all Churchills, the Black Prince, ARL 44...

Tracks do only count as additional (spaced) armor. So if an enemy hits your tracks in an angle that carries the bullet further into your hull, and he manages to penetrate the hull armor at that position, both tracks and tank take full damage.

So, that is what a well aimed tracking shot does, immobilizing you and doing damage, if your repair kit is on cooldown, you are typically dead, if the enemy knows where and when to track you.

1. Most tracks do not count as spaced armour (Note the word "most", there are a few exceptions).

2. Skilled players will often aim for an enemies fly wheel. This has the dual advantage of (a) tracking the enemy to keep it in place, and (b) go through and do full damage.

3. This is why (a) the term "perma-tracked" exists in WoT and often leads to death, and (b) why a large repair kit might be a good idea on a tank such as a heavy which may poke corners, and (c.) why repair skill is so important on heavy tanks (arguments over it's role for other classes).

4. Check the angle of approach to a corner depending on tank driven to avoid perma-tracking where your own armour is not angled. If you approach corners at the correct angle for the tank you might get perma-tracked, but also might be able to not take damage. Depends on player know how on specific tanks and skill in getting the angle correct.

Module damage is treat separately to tank hp damage.  Damaging your tracks does not take away from the shell's ability to damage your tank as many people seem to think.  In fact a shell could go through your track, damage it, through the hull doing full damage, into an internal module or modules and damage those as well.

All tracks count as spaced armour, some have holes through the track hitbox though.

AP doesn't really care about spaced armour though as long as it has enough penetration for the combination of spaced and hull armour.

Shooting tanks in the drivewheels (front/back, depending on tanks) can cause the double track/damage thing. It's a fairly common weakspot on many tanks.

Hint: Think about what those tracks are attached to. If you shoot through the tracks, you can damage it.

Shooting through the sprocket in order to take/keep one's tracks off while also damaging him is a common techique. Even I can do it sometimes when the target sits still of when I'm extremely lucky, but players with good coordination do this pretty much at will.
