Tank outline while target is behind solid object?

A picture says more than a thousand words:

Ensk, central plaza. The T-43 is fully behind the solid socket of the statue, but when I aim at him, I still get the tank outline drawn.

Any shots fired get absorbed by the socket.

My understanding of the outline was, that it only gets drawn if I actually have a clear line-of-fire at the target, even if line-of-sight was obstructed by some soft objects (like bushes), but I obviously don't have either in this case.

 

Might be since 1.0, that I have missed maaaany shots at outlined targets, where I couldn't understand how those shots could have missed. Well, here the explanation is obvious, I get an outline even though I have no chance to hit the target.

It's either that or you don't get an outline on targets not covered. 10/10 hitbox work, WG.

Yeh, there are some bug correlated with the tanks outline since the new engine got implemented. It's almost natural to have such bugs after a new software get released, but it will surely get fixed in time.

You should have probably post this on the bug report section of the forum too.

Thinking about it, I once had a similar bug. I got the outline pointing outside it, while pointing at the tank didn't show it up...

There are a lot of bugs considering the map hitboxes not matching the visual objects on maps.

Let's hope they will be fixed soon, because I really hate when I can clearly see the tank and have an outline,

only to watch my shot get absorbed by invisible "walls".

Half-arsed hitboxes have been here all four years that I have played, and it only got worse with the graphics update. I don't have high hopes that they are finally going to fix this issue now. And it's a rather severe game issue at that, as shooting at tanks and playing behind cover is kind of a big deal in WoT.

Had similar but the other way around (mostly happens on Tundra hill when poking around the central rock) where I could clearly see the entire target, but sillouhette would not show up in sniper view and when I zoomed out I was staring at the rock in 3rd person view. I had to poke my entire tank out from behindcover to get an aim on the sillouhette, at which point I still shot the rock....

Before the update you had that kind of stuff on a few maps already. After the patch you have it EVERYWHERE. Rocks, floor, objects - there are countless spots where the hitbox doesn't fit the object's texture. They most definitely rushed the graphical update or they now care even less about developement quality...

I've only noticed that on the statue on Ensk that you are aiming on. It still has a hit box, so you can't hit your target. But you can still see what it does behind it. It did indeed appear after 1.0.

I am not here to defend WG in any way, but I work as a software engineer. Changes like this are huge in scope and many existing spots in the code base have to be touched. Bugs are bound to happen in such scenarios. Even with a lot of testing you won't find all of them.

Agreed. But we are talking about a company that is known for bad developement quality and inability to fix age-old problems and bugs.

There are many hitboxes in many maps with those issues unfortunately.

1.0 gave us the fabulous graphics but they came with a package.

Hope they fix it, more than soon tm

Never had this issue in the old graphic engine tbh. It started with the new engine. But, having a team working on the engine, I'm quite optimistic about them solving the bug...

Makes you wonder how you get spotted despite being behind concealment.
A lot of things are broken atm. 6th sense sometimes has a lot of delay and some bushes don't provide any concealment at all.

Not to mention tanks which should be spotted suddenly appearing righ in front of you. I have on a few occasions almost collided with unspotted enemies as they pop up aat the last second.

Because the calculations are most definitely tied to the hitboxes of the objects, not the textures/surface models.

Well, to an extend it s to be expected from such a large release that there are some dodgy edges and stuff, but a complete structure, and a model-wise fairly easy one as well? I mean rocks and ruins, okay, but this socket is made of nice and clean trapezoid shapes...
