Well, yes.
If you are spotted.
If you are unspotted, the server doesn't tell their clients where you are. Their clients can't render your tank, and thus your shadow if it doesn't know where you are.

So basically all the time because if you're close enough for the enemy to see your shadow, from above like that, he also spots you. There are very few spots, i can only think of one, where you can peak over a ridge just to spot without being spot yourself by the enemy under. Usually, even if he can't see you he proxy spots you. Otherwise is either range or angle that your shadow wouldn't be seen anyway.

But it is thinking like this that earns you 10k personal rating..    In frontline yesterday I could see the player's name and the red dot thingy but not see the tank so could not see where it is facing.  however the shadow did show me this.

I was killed straight after thinking oooh pretty shadow..  which explains my 4K rating :)

Shadows are only rendered for objects visible to you, in other words the objects your graphics card actually "sees" in the game.

So no, your shadow won't be rendered for them f you are not spotted by the enemy. Just like shadows of unspotted enemies won't be rendered for you since they are not visible so your graphics card can't use them in it's calculations.

I think this also applies to movements of trees when you fire.

The movement is only seen by yourself , (presumably friendlies) and enemies if you are spotted

4 tankers and a dog did a nice video demonstrating this.
