I always wondered if the Maps like Ensk or those mountain ones are real. Like if they have some WW2 refrences or just if they arent made up.

Any answers to it? Or if someone just could tell me where they are placed.

Most are inspired by or based on real locations, only a few are modelled "strictly" on actual locations. Paris is very close to the real deal but a real name does not equal a real location.

Wargaming has made some articles describing how they make maps: https://worldoftanks...ty-himmelsdorf/

(Back when the Berlin map was proposed, I checked Google Maps first to see if I could figure out what location they had picked (if they went with the Paris approach). I was correct. Kinda sad when you know WG's preferred combo of field+long lane+narrow streets that well.)

Paris map is a bit like Blackpool, it has the tower.

Probably a cheap knock off, too.

Often wondered what era Paris is set in. There is a Citroen 2cv on one of the spawn points, these were introduced in 1948 according to Wikipedia...

Anyways can't be Blackpool never seen any donkeys apart from what's on my team:)

All have real places references and some are more inspired than others from said places. But no, they are are not real as for "game play purposes" they need to be entirely artificial.

Yes, that was definitely based on a real location:

Most tanks though would hide in buildings and not be forced to drive round like taxis because for some reason my 60 tonne tank can't drive through a wooden door frame.

prokhorovka was taken directly from a battle in Kursk where German tanks massacred T-34's.

I know that physics 1.0 works perfectly on all of them.

Probably will take 17 months for WG pros to say "we found out that physics isnt behaving like it should".

So yeah, they all suck.

Really? How did WG get it so wrong in the game then?

Because, IIRC, just few T-34 were at Prokorovka. Most of the soviet troops were BT and T-26, with few T-34 and in the order of 10 HT (again IIRC a few churchill and 2-3 KV-1). All this vs panthers and last gen panzers. Still the soviet won, mainly thanks to the bigger number of tanks deployed.

The town hall on Himmelsdorf is the royal palace in Warsaw.

The Pilsen map was based on the Skoda factory.

Prokhorovka is based on the battllefield near the town of Prokhorovka during the batlle of Kursk. This was the biggest tank battle in history, 600 German tanks against 900 Soviet tanks.

Not all german tanks were Panthers or Tigers, a lot of them were panzer IV's and it was the last time the panzer III was deployed in great numbers

The Soviets deployed 501 T34's, 264 T70's, 35 Churchill III's.

It still boggles my mind especially with russian history that Stalingrad was removed, I hope they bring the old maps back.
