i pretty recently unlocked the kv-2, and i have no plans to go for the t-150 or the SPG available. i want to turn it to an elite tank, but this is at a ridiculous cost for a tier 6 tank. while i have no problem with the t-150, being 10k for a tier 6 is pretty neat, but the total cost of experience to "elite-ify" the tank is well over 100k. 93k of which is for a tier 7 SPG. on most tanks i see, this is enough to go from tier 7 to tier 8. and i don't even want the SPG, it being this expensive its obviously worth it, but in my scenario, i do not have intent in obtaining such a tank. i would like to use my kv-2 for fun, forever.

anyway, i know war-gaming are not going to change this anytime soon, so the real question here is, are there any tips anyone could lend me? ive not been playing long, im trying to get proper grips with the game. so any recommendations for a 2 month old newborn like me? lol

it is because you change tank types in that case.

especially arty... researching arty from regular tanks in allways expensive (XP wise)

look at French tier6 SPG for example

You can always play with reserves till you get the 90k required, that will minimize the time required to elite the kv2. Also i am not sure how fun the kv2 will be!

Well, the only practical reasons for "elite´ing" a tank is to accellerate the crew training and/or collect XP for conversion (which costs real money). So unless you enjoy the KV-2 so much, that you want to have a really high end crew on it, you´re not losing out on anything by not making the tank elite, the only other thing you get is a shiny elite tag in the garage screen (which has no practical use at all). Yeah it takes longer before you can activate the accelerated crew training on the KV-2, but there´s nothing you can do about that. There´s of course the option to retrain a really experienced for the KV-2 later when you got one.

If you really enjoy the KV-2 so much you could also wait until the premium KV-2 is available for a reasonable price and buy that.

If you want to convert XP for money, you can just do that on other tanks.

Keep the KV-2, play it for fun. One day you will notice you will have enough xp laying around to research T-150, spend the xp and keep playing your KV-2 for fun. One day you will have enough xp laying around to research S-51 by that point you will have a pretty decent crew in your KV-2 and you can turn on Accelerate Crew training if you want.

If it stops being fun at some point and turns into a grind then you can focus on

  • make sure you play the daily x2/3/5 bonus with the tank
  • make use of weekend bonuses such as "x2 xp for every win"
  • exclusively playing the tank when you earn free premium day(s) from a mission

As an added bonus you will have a T7 heavy researched if you ever feel like going up that line in the future and same goes for a T7 SPG incase you want to give the "Campaign" a try to earn some nice bonuses & reward tanks.

topics like this imediatly make me remind my first steps in world of tanks, when i struggled to get credits to buy a tier V german medium, because it costed like 300 thousand credits, and i couldnt even fit modules in it, or train the crews properly...

now i look to the credits i have in my garage (around 10 million) and i feel suddenly like a damn capitalist

my advice really is: if you can, buy a tier V or VI premium, they are relatively cheap, they can still do easly 30 or 40k credits per battle

play with them for a good amount of time, play missions for the stug IV campains, that also give you credits and avoid playing tanks without being properly setup or moduled, bcause that will make an incredible difference in your chances of making credits...

You will play better, make more credits, and be cappable of finance future tanks...

It's pricey since the arty line is a shortcut. Simple as that. Not everyone want's to grind the mid or low tier arties either. And want's a more direct route to the high tiers. KV-2 can give that.

Then what's the issue? If so you will elite it in due time. And most tanks lead to more then one tank the ppl grinding it have no interest in vs their target line. Tiger P to name one needs more XP grinding to elite then even most tier 9's. As he leads to 3 different lines costing 90K to 150K XP. Or the T-54 having two tier X's leading from it. Needing over 400 000 XP in total.

KV-2 is not the worst elite grind on tier 6 even. Take the tier 6 US med for instance. It has two tanks leading out from it as well. A tier 7 med, and a tier 7 HT. Both costing 55K XP. That and it has a bit more modules. So again, close to the same amount of XP vs the KV-2. Or the Chinese tier 6 med. Leading to a tier 7 med, and a tier 7 HT. Costing over 100K in total before modules. So 106 000 XP for tanks alone is not that terrible for tier 6.

Wait till you get a St Emil.  Then you will know the true meaning of fun.

Centurion 7/1 says hi. You need 93k for tracks and gun (thats slightly better than the stock) and turret so you can finally spend another 55k to get the top gun

I think I did about 200 battles in the bloody St Emil thing stock, at least that's what it felt like.

Same :\  I ground that whole line without a lick of freexp, got the Grille15, didn't get on with it, and then WG nerfed it.  I wish I knew which tier 10 would truly be worth the grind.

Skoda T50 says hi too. Needing over 120K on turret, tracks, engine and gun that works… before you can farm the 61K for the top gun. You can ofc just take the turret and skip right to the gun. But without the engine and tracks it moves slower then a Lowe with a dead driver. And the stock gun can't pen anything. So those 61K will take a long time.

If you play it for fun, why did you care about the grind?

In all fairness It doesn't have terrible pen (base pen is higher then on the T-54 and you atleast have 320 alpha dmg. The Cent 7/1 has only 230dmg and while it has a decent 226mm pen it suffers from poor dispersion values when moving anything (worst in class)
