I think I would like to have a crack at grinding to the S.Conqueror in the TotT month about to begin.  I don't know a lot about the British heavies, and having looked at the premiums, I think only the Excelsior is available for sale.  What is a FV201 and Action X?  Why are they not for sale?  Do they ever go on sale?  Is the Excelsior going to be adequate for getting one or two crews up to speed?  I'm going to try using the Tog for a bit, but I think it will be retired to a back corner of my garage again.

FV201 and Excelsior are awful by most accounts.

No idea why the Caernarvon Action X has not been released, considering the British heavy line is quite old now, it is odd they haven't got out a tier 8 premium for it when the likes of German, US, Chinese and Russian heavy tank trees have several tier 8 premium heavies.

I'm looking at the 201 on tanks.gg, and I can't ever remember seeing one in game.  Does it go on sale occasionally?  Has it got PMM?

The 201 is extremely rare. The last time it was sold was in April this year and I think before that in 2016. No preferential match making.

The TOG II needs a buff :\  I would be happy with just a small increase to frontal armour.  This tank is so useless.

TOG is probably the best out of the 3 heavies, which says a lot.

Do you want a HT premium for crew training? Not really any viable options. Caernarvon AX hasnt been released yet and the FV201 doesnt get PMM. The Excelsior I cant comment on regarding the current meta, but that thing does get PMM. TOG can be a test of the nerves, which isnt handy for my blood pressure, since the Churchill's already claimed all my patience.

The road I am taking:

- Fresh crew in the Churchill I and I will keep moving them with the new tanks in line I unlock.

- Training crew for the Conqueror in my FV4202

The main reason for it being extremely rare is that It just sucks and with the prize It came with.... Just wow

Only collectors bought It or people who wanted an easy 3mark

You are better off training a crew in one of the meds like a Cromwell B or FV4202, they are more competitive than the limited available heavy tank trainers.

You might want to wait to see if the Cent 5/1 RAAC actually finally comes out, as it's basically a straight up better FV4202.

The AC 4 Experimental is all right, a little sluggish but 171 standard pen on a tier 6 medium with 10 degrees of gun depression is more than workable.

The actual options of British premiums available is pretty bad, which is again why it's odd they haven't released the RAAC and Caern AX, when both look solid and they are ready to go.

The Cromwell B is a doubly good premium to pick up because not only is it very good and fun, but you get the free-BIA crew which is great if you need a new British crew.

It was on sale briefly earlier this year, basically a stock Caernarvon at tier 7, most hate it, for me it is a go to tank, I love it, but then if people tend to hate a tank for whatever reason I like to be different so i want to go out and play it, the A45 could just use a bit of an armour buff though, but then it isn't Russian s it won't.

I think your a bit harsh mate, the look of sheer surprise when other players see what you have brought out never gets old, same goes for the A45, that in itself adds to the fun factor:trollface:

The excelsior isn't that bad at all, I haven't played it much on EU but on NA I played it a lot.

It is a really really good ridge peek a boo tank and its armour regularly gets underestimated, if you are above a tank poking a ridge shooting down you can maintain around 120 ish armour with strips that go up to 200-300 effective armour... on a tier 5 tank.

Its biggest weakness like most brit tanks is its flat roof, other then that its mobile, decently armoured all round for a tier 5 it is pretty much a KV1 that is more mobile but with worse gun... hell it has better all round armour than a KV1.... that says a lot.

C'mon, the Excelsior isn't awful. I would go as far as calling it better than alright.

91mm of standard pen, and a flat 114mm turret front. Can't see much going for it to be honest.

I mean the hull armour is ok I suppose but you can't angle it too much cos you'll get penned and tracked through the front tracks and the mobility is not horrible for a British heavy.

It's got -13 gun depression to the sides, so that is a thing I suppose. It was awful last time I played one, but that was a while ago.

Of the 3 (IIRC) limited MM tier 5 heavies I'd reckon it was the worst, with the 220-2 being the best and the T14 being better because it's turret is much stronger and therefore more usable.

Excelsior is great IMO. Fun tank, really fast and agile for HT.

turret armor isnt that big problem, because people down there in low-mid tiers have no clue about this game, and they are just staring at Zeppelins and chacing butterflies.

I was positively surprised how good Excelsior is. I also bought it recentely, to train crew for SQ/FV215b.

If you're ok with just one crew you don't really need a premium crew-training -wise. I can see the point though if you want a second crew.

C1 to C7 is 57k xp (add another 50k if you open the church gun carrier as well)

C7 to BP is ~80k xp

75% crew to 100% is 72k xp (if you spend gold on training, church 1 has extra gunner, church 7 and BP extra radioman you're not going to use in super CQ, that's 400 gold saving)

0% first skill to 100% first skill is 210k

If you activate some crew training boosts (+100 % and +200 %), even if you did not open the gun carrier, you should be able to get a 75% crew to complete first skill before you're done with C7. When you reach Super CQ, your crew should easily be two full skills and 80+% on the third.

If credits is the issue as well, I'd prolly just grind them in some other tier8 premium, Excelsior (or FV201, if it became available) aren't really going to bring you any substantial amounts, it's easier to just play some extra rounds in your favorite t8 prem.

Full APCR Excelsior is among the best tier 5 tanks, with the pref. MM. Of course no idea how long that will last.

I am thinking of grinding the Sup Conq - I have about 50K to go on the Black Prince grind, my current WR in it is 53%, I quite like it and 'they' say the Caernarvon now it has been buffed is better
