Have just come to the end of the IS - which one to go for first?

Liked the IS so I'm tempted by the IS-3 - got a feeling my 'skill set' isn't best suited to a tank like the ISM.

Thoughts?

Take the IS-3. 705A is quite a bad tank, compared with IS-7 and 277. I think even IS-4 can be considered better, lol.

Haven't played the tier 9-10 yet,but I can confirm:

IS-M sucks!!!

Despite all the power creep, the 3-5-7 MM and the newer tier 8 heavies, the IS3 is still a fine tank.

Hints: never side scrape frontally, don't aim too much and carry some APCR (at least 10).

Wonder if the IS-M is going to get any votes... (probably will after I've posted this).

The poll does seem fairly one-sided - I admit I had no idea the IS-M was held in such contempt.

It's not good.

The armor rarely works,

the gun is potato, with bad stats, accuracy, aim time ext.., 212 pen and 240 premium, yea good luck being bottom tier 80% of the time with this gun,

and although not the slowest tier 8 heavy, the overall mobility is awful, turns like a battleship, going up hill is a big no-no, and don't even bother with soft terrain.

You can't even reliably pen an O-Ho, and we're talking about a same tier heavy.

You forgot that it also doesn't have a magical side armor where tier 10 shells disappear like the IS3. :)

Ive seen IS-Ms do well enough.
Needs to be played more like a KV than an IS from what I've seen.
Punished for yolo runs the IS-3 can do.
I don't think that makes it bad.

Obj. 705A is good for trades and sidescrapping, that's it. Can't hold a corridor by itself due to the long reload.

Obj. 277 has a good gun, not so good armor.

IS-7 has a good armor, not so good gun.

Both are fairly mobile and can be quite devastating when going with the MTs.

I pick tanks depending on their tier 10s. Only one tier 10 left for me to get.

Yep, and if WG is good at anything, they're good at making videos. This guide shows how beautiful this tank is. :)

The IS3 is an awesome tank, where as the IS M is just hard work, different people will have different views obviously but even when trying to get the sidescraping right the IS M seems to get penned by anything, so go for the IS3.

IS-M would be fine if the MM wasnt FUBAR.

Can't speak for the IS-M, but the IS right up to IS7 are all great tanks.

Never played the IS-M but the tier 9 and 10 obj's are pretty good imo. I played them on the test server and I like their armor and gun, mobility is also very good for the armor they carry.

IS3 is a good tier 8 starter tank.good Russian  armor good Russian gun and leads to nice tier 9 and 10 tanks

IS-M is a verry good tank but you know how to play it (sidescraping) if you cant do that you gonna have a hard time.If you know how to side scrape its a verry fun tank.

pretty simple... IS-3 takes a lot of skill.. ehrm..

IS-M is pretty fine on the other hand. I like the dpm and pen is still pretty alright. Don't count on your armor, as the upperplate is pretty weak. Only sidescraping is ok, but don't compare it to VK4502B.
