I almost have enough XP in the great, bloody big Jagdpanther that I can unlock the next big-gunned, teutonic behemoth in the line. But which one do I choose? And dont go ruin this thread with some sensible thing like "learn to play better before you move up to tier 8". I might not even want to play it, I might just keep it in the garage and look at it? ;)

Sd.Kfz.184 Panzerjäger Tiger (P) "Ferdinand/Elefant"

+ It's big! Really properly massive!

+ It actually existed and you can go to Bovington and molest it in person

+ Very pretty in the jerry sense

+ Playing it badly as I would do is historicly accurate in terms of it's performance in the war

- Slower than James May driving uphill with the parking brake engaged

The imaginary doodled-on-a-napkin tank named Jagdpanther II

+It's faster than the Elefant

ah the good old question

I would say JPII  it has a decent speed in case you need to relocate.  Ferdi has armor which wont be useful in tier 10 games + slow af

I played both. JPII is a better TD in current meta, mostly because of the mobility advantage. Armor of Ferdi will only be useful against lower tiers, but you will not see alot of them thanks to 3-5-7 and the fact that tier 8s are mostly bottom tier.

Played both.
It really depends on what you like more.
Armour or manoeuvrability.

I played that line so long ago that JadgPanther II was not in the game so I played the Elephant/Ferdinand.

The Ferdinand is supposed to be an "assault" TD for WoT gameplay purposes whereby it can lead from at or near the frontline. That works well enough when facing lower tier tanks, but when it is bottom tier it is necessary to play as a further back sniper. The issue is that versus tier X tanks the armour is less effective. The Ferdinand is slow.

JadgPanther II has less reliable armour, but much more mobility. I expect most respondents to your thread OP to recommend the JP II on the basis of the mobility.

However, OP putting it as kindly as I can I expect more armour would actually suit you better, as it might help you live a little longer and thus hit a few more shoots before dying, whilst the speed of the JP II might lead you into over extending and dying early with fewer shots hit.

JPII. Ferdi armor is not that good anymore tbh. JPII's superstructure can work hull down as top tier still. But that mobility ect just saves it more then the Ferdi armor would for my style anyway.

I would go for the Ferdinand.

Their firepower is the same.

Gun handling speaking, the JpII is slightly better, BUT Ferdinand has a better gun depression, which is crucial at slopes. (Ferdi -8degrees, JpII -6,5degrees).

Ferdinand has better armor and more hitpoints, which (for me) means that it can stay in battle longer than JpII.

On the other hand, JpII has better mobility.

So if you are about to take a def position or hold the line, Ferdinand is the choice. If you are up to assault game style and want to be able to change locations as fast as possible, then JpII is the choice.

I had ferd, but if I'd choose again, I'd pick Jp2.

Jagdpanther II,

The Ferdinand has less effective armor due to goldammo and it's mobility pays for this armor it can't even use.

The Jagdpanther II is very mobile for a TD and has the same effective armor in most engagements.

neither because both are t8...

ferdinand has always been mediocre at best, but now its supposedly good armor is worthless because of the stronk T8 mm while jpII has been powercreeped as [edited]- youd be better off buying the chinese t8 prem td or grinding su101 which are both simply strictly better versions of jpII, while at15/t28/28 prototype are strictly better than ferdinand in any "assault" role... well, su101 is also better than ferdinand as an assault td...

Well, basically su101/chinese*edited* are both the best armored/assault and mobile TDs at t8 while skorpion is the best t8 redline td. Other than these 3 there imo isnt any t8 td worth getting at this point.

Ferdi works better on city maps (more HP for trading, better gun-arc for going around corners), JP2 is more suited for open maps due to mobility (though Ferdi has better viewrange).

Armor is mostly useless on both against T8+, get a T28 for that.

With less than 4000 battles I'd say neither. You're struggling to do well in the Skorpion, so you will just suffer in both of these. Just play the Jagdpanther some more to get into the playstyle before moving up a tier.

Basically, the Ferdi needs you to have good map knowledge and situational awareness because you're too slow to get out if you over committed, also, it's pretty poop in general.

JPII is IMHO the better tank, but again, needs map knowledge and situational awareness as you can't expect to bounce much, in combination with the lack of gun depression this means you need to be very much aware of what's happening around you when to peek or poke over a ridge if you don't feel like pissing your HP down the drain in shitty trades.

Ferdie also has 6 crew, JPII only has 5, which will leave you a pixel man short if you go for the Jagdtiger.

I preferred the Ferdie, good gun traverse, is more useful for ambushing. Imho ofc

I have both and for my noob play style, aka no situational or team awareness the JP2 is a better tank (for me) Ferdi i just find i get locked down and exploded

JPII if you are a good player. Ferdi if you are a bad one.

Looking at your start you should´t get anyone right now. Drop down the tiers and practice and train crews until you improved at lower tiers.

JPII if you wonna armor and mobility, Ferdi if you wish to have more HP to trade and bit better hull. Ferdi armor outside gun mantlet dont have more then 210 effective, where JpII can have up to 250.
