I can certainly understand the desire to keep something special for a special occasion - I have a 30yr bottle of fine Panamanian Rum set aside for my birthday this year - it has been REALLY difficult not opening it.
Some people even buy whiskey with the intention of selling it in a few years - can be quite lucrative if you know what you're doing.
Personally, I put it in the same category as fast cars - they are made to be driven, not hidden away in a dusty garage, but then I have always suffered from a lack of self-discipline
