This is what it says:

Enable your allies to cause 5000 HP of damage

Second condition: survive

I just did 6,358 spotting and survived on Fisherman's Bay... But I didn't complete the mission. That's weird right?

It does after all say Enable your allies to cause 5,000 HP of damage

So I did a little checking around the net to see if anyone else had the same problem. And people had problems.. but it was from before the mission changes.

Before the changes to the missions the description was: Spot enemy vehicles and enable your allies to cause at least 5,000 HP of damage to enemy vehicles. Spotting damage caused by your platoon mates counts toward this total.

Now here it is clear: I need SPOT dmg where tracking doesn't count towards it. Nowhere does it say that in the new description. I enabled my allies to cause over 5k dmg with my assist. So what did I do wrong?

Besides the tracking dmg I did was on enemies far away that I was spotting. So I spotted and tracked them.

Definitely says "spotting".

Not sure why so many people struggle reading missions. There seems to be at least 2 or 3 of these thread every day

It's always been spotting alone. But before the description failed to mention that in any way. Now it does. As indicated by the image above. LT missions that has that "spotting" mark states that track assist doesn't count towards it.
