How is the trajectory of arty shells modelled?  Do they follow a parabolic path, or do I assume they arrive at the target vertically?

If its the former then, in theory, if you hug the side of a rock (or other solid obstacle) then their [enemy arty] shot is more likely to strike the obstacle before getting to you?

Yes.

Correct.

I recommend you to play a few battles of artillery yourself to get a better understanding where you are safe from artillery.

They all fly parabolic curves but all in a different angle. The British ones have the highest angle and can sometimes hit you when others can’t.

I shouldn't give away tips like this but...

The best way to hide from arty is not to be spotted.  And if you do get spotted then move, and get unspotted.

Arty can relocate, hiding behind houses and rocks will only save you from the noobs.

I think that is sound advice. Thank you.

The best way to avoid being hit by arty is getting games without arty in both teams.

Half true - there are arties that are too slow for any useful repositioning (like that russian tier 8 thing - it can hardly escape any sort of counter-srty by repositioning). Other than that, yes, every even half decent arty palyer will reposition as to hit targets in the relevant combat zones. There are usually some positions that are VERY arty safe but the most vital battlegrounds usually are not (just relatively). Big rocks and mountain ranges are your best bet, if none are availiable, try slopes. A good slope is hell to arty precision ^^

I can relocate in the GW Tiger P and if you are hiding behind something just to stop me shooting you then I will relocate.

I play masses of arty, and i'd say the best way to avoid being hit is simply to always move, and best of all make very random moves. It is almost impossible to hit some players. I would imagine most other arty players look for a pattern as I do, and once a pattern has been identified these tanks can then be hit, even lights at full speed. But with some players their movements are random and jerky, in my opinion these are the hardest players of all to hit.

Randomly stopping is the bane of my arty life.

You get your shot perfectly timed click fire the enemy tank stops and your shell lands way in front of them.

If you are going to move back and forth then don't move between the same exact spots every time, it makes it very easy to drop bombs on you.

And this, I forgot the rocking horses and the ease with which they can be hit!.

The random stop as you say is a real pain! You think, ah, he is trying to make it to that ridge (for example), time it, set up send the shell on it's way and he stops, in some random spot, these are the players I then walk away from, it's not worth the shells or the hair loss! :teethhappy:

Move change direction and speed reverse even.

Do not be predictable I have watched a tank peek out from cover get shot at by an SPG me actually.

Back off then peek out again just as I reload and we go through this 5 times.

YOU are spotted I can see you so stop doing exactly the same thing peek round the other side of the building or some other building.

Time my shots unless I am in the french premium or very low tier my rate of fire will be around 3 rounds a minute higher tiers its maybe just 2.

Whatever you do if you are on the laketown map and there are arty be very careful taking the 2 line that narrow back road with a ridge to peek over between the 2 bases is an arty trap.

Any shells will damage and stun multiple tanks.
