At least three times I have shot friendly German tanks while in a Russian tank. I only realised they were friendly tanks after they were out of view. I actually killed one of them once and then I realised it was a friendly tank. That's really embarrassing but I worry it will keep happening. I know I am supposed to look at their green border and I am not colourblind, but now and then I catch myself turning my gun at German tanks without thinking. Does anyone have any tips?

Check your calendar - it might be some 77 years or so out of date!  :)

I did this in my first ever battle.  My German tank got spawned next to some Russian tanks, I thought "that's not very clever but the game is in beta" and proceeded to attack those sneaky Russians.

These days, you have 95 different nations in game and it's hard to tell what tank is even from what nation, you have Americans and Russians in the German tree, Germans in the Polish and French..... etc. etc.

I've played over 1500 battles by now but this is still happening. Maybe if I am in a German tank I will not shoot other German tanks, except I must remember to check if they have a red border.

There is a psychological observation that if you write green in red letters, and you have to respond quickly in repeated word presentations, you may mistakenly respond by saying the word was red. So if you see "Pz IV" even in green, it somehow translates into enemy tank. It looks like a Pz IV and says it is a Pz IV. I only realised I was wrong sometime later after I had shot at the German tank and there may have been cases when I shot at friendly German tanks and never actually realised I had done this. I have plenty of tank buddy badges but maybe not as many as one would expect from the number of battles I have played.

Yes, one solution might be to delete history from my brain but there may be other solutions.

Maybe you belong to those players who regularly say that this game is just one vs 29 other players. ;)

Or better still delete the game.

So, in your day to day life, When you see a VW Golf.  You ram it off the road because it is a German car?  I have read some feeble excuses for team damage.  Using your logic, any axis tank is the "enemy"  So I assume Japanese and Italian tanks are also shot by you?

If history were an excuse to shoot allies.  As a Brit. Am I allowed to damage French tanks because of Agincourt?

I'm  sorry but I find your reasoning truly asinine.

Not colour blind he says, but in the heat of battle finds it easier to recognise the different nationalities than a red outline versus a green one! Bovine Excrement!! We're just being trolled here guys!

Disable tank names and only display class chevrons. So, you only shoot at red color without reading names.

I wonder if they got it back to front. I mean the teams tank colours. In most other cases I can think of, red stands for no, stop, dont, etc etc, and green is for go, do, enabled, etc etc. So we aught to be not shooting the reds and shooting the greens, may well cure OP's problem! :teethhappy:

Lol - sometimes my allies do silly things but I am patient. I've probably only actually shot at a friendly tank once every several thousand shots. It is not common but it happens and in those cases I have noticed it was a German tank I shot while driving a Soviet tank and I had perceived it mistakenly as an immediate threat. I cannot believe no one else has had this problem. Some players must have.

It is an option I guess. So you have never shot a friendly tank?

I don't usually ram Golfs in real life since I am not driving a WW II Allied tank in real life and Golfs are not WW II German tanks and I am not playing a WW II game, that should be obvious enough. Please no irony, I am asking for ideas. I've also kicked myself a few times for being shot by enemy tanks that I had ignored because they were of the same nationality as my own.

Ok, here's a helpful response. I will try this. I only seem to have the problem for mainstream 1939-1943 period tanks with which I am quite familiar with from other games and from documentaries. I recognise the silhouettes well enough, so that even removing their names might not totally solve the problem but it should help.

That's an interesting thought. To be honest, I don't understand why tanks of different nationalities are being randomly mixed up in the same team. I would be quite happy with smaller tank battles, were the mix of nationalities made more sense.

But then there would be only soviet team. :(

I am quiet honestly annoyed that we don't get to choose our teamcolors :sceptic: it's such a small thing giving us a bit of choice there.

Even after years it's still distracing for me, because my go to teamcolor is actually red.

Would it help if they had purple border instead of red? Because then you can turn on the colour blind mode.

Whatever you do, you better not leave your house. You should call a doctor, ideally one of your own nationality.
