I was quite surprised myself, seeing that according to global stats, the Black Prince receives more non-damaging shots than the O-Ni, but not only that - it bounces the most shots out of all the tier 7 heavy tanks.

Does that justify having such a crappy gun though?... :hiding:

Most likely because less people see a Black Prince and double tap their 2 Key. I see an O-Ni I load Gold which largely nulls his armour's effectiveness, regardless of the tank basically (unless it's something like my Chariot where switching to Gold would be detrimental in fact), but I don't do the same to the Black Prince.

The armor was never the issue on BP imo. It's pretty decent. I enjoyed that part greatly during my British HT grind. It is the sluggish speed & turnrate, combined with that silly popgun that makes it so horrible to play.

I've been doing quite well in it tbh and it feels like a massive step up from Churchill VII. The armour is pretty damn good and can even trouble higher tiers. I don't mind the 17lb that much either, it handles nicely and has a decent ROF which goes some way to making up the pathetic alpha, and at T7, 171 pen is workable. It may help that the firefly was one of my first tanks in this game and still has my most games played, so maybe I am just used to that gun. That speed though - by the time you get to the battle either all the enemies or all of your team are dead.

Well, I find it traversed pretty quickly for a heavy, only with the top engine though. Base traverse value is 20°/sec, but effectively it's well over 30°/sec (over 37°/sec on hard terrain) with the top engine. It wasn't a bad turner when I played it. Slow but maneuverable, strange combo. Only the gun is a let-down, and just screams "press 2" all the time.

Armor was never my issue with it, it actually works. The gun and mobility combo was why I sold it off. And like the Tiger P, you don't trade to well vs anything on the HT line.

As already said on this thread BP has actually quite workable armour and really strong turret, it's biggest problem is getting to places in time. Slow tanks = not flexible tanks = hard to carry in them and make up for your own teammates when they start dying left and right.

Interestingly it can also completely destroy the T29 in a face hug.

Armour has never been an issue with it, it's just that the armour does not make up for the deficiencies of the gun and mobility.

Look at say the T95 or Maus, super slow, but have decent guns and amazing armour, so in the balance of armour/mobility/firepower they score badly in one area, good in another and very good in another.

BP has a bad gun, bad mobility and good armour.

So no very good in any area and bad in two areas = a bad tank.

Give it a better gun, like a 20lber and it would be good gun, good armour, bad mobility, which is then balanced and more fun to play.

The fact enemies can penetrate the tracks frontally and not only do damage on the hull  but also damage the tracks... makes the Blackprince

extremely vulnerable to any player who has a minimal knowledge about its weaknesses, the turret is bouncy, but the tank profile is so small

that is not always easy to find the right spots to only hide the turret.

the gun selection and the lack of mobility, just makes this tank too vulnerable even at tier VII,

i have been grinding the line slowly, because its such a pain to play till tier 8, its something that i don't want to commit to play, as its really frustrating, arty and the current meta is terrible for slow poorly armored vehicles, and this Churchill's line is simply terrible.

Probably because of the troll tracks, with the wheels sticking out of the tank, making shots hit the wheel but not the armor,

and the turret is pretty strong,

but the problem with the BP is not the armor, it's the mobility and the gun, that don't fit in the current META.

so on the list we have

1. trash

2. trash unless fighting tier 6s

3. situational

4. trash

5. riddled with weaksptos

6 and onwards: trash

none of the tanks on that list have particularly good armor outside of a hulldown t29 perfectly facing his enemies.

Needs more pen or (current!) APCR/HEAT/HE loadout, otherwise it's fine.
