What is going on???

I have a potato PC and FPS is usually around 8-10 fps and relatively stable since 1.0. But recently it sometimes soars to the giddy heights of 40fps! I can see tracers!

Then all of a sudden it will drop to sub 5 fps and I end up getting killed because everything just stops.

Clearly something has changed. And no, it's not my PC

How potato is this computer, exactly?

It's a really old PC I don't know what the specs are exactly, nor do I care. But the fact it does occasionally run at 40fps means that it can! So what makes it decide to do so, and then not any more? Pre-1.0 I was happily on 18-20fps.

Are you actually playing the game or watching a replay that's been uploaded to PowerPoint slides? :amazed:

But yes, something has changed - the whole graphics engine was updated for 1.0. Seems that the news filters through to your PC at about the same rate as your frames.

Erm if you actually read my OP you'll see that I am aware it changed for 1.0 and it's been relatively stable since then at about 8-10fps. But since the mid-week update it has these weird occasional episodes of amazing fps! It's like a whole different game. Tracers? I can play counter battery again, if I knew I was going to get 40fps.

I would feel embarassed to bother playing online games with this much fps. It's detrimental to your team efforts dude. Take some responsibility and face the harsh reality that you are a burden for your team.

I read it, I understood it, I didn't let that stand in the way of making the joke. :great:

I wouldn't go that far, I simply wouldn't even attempt to play a game if that's the sort of frame rate I was getting because it'd do little except give me that sort of burning headache which sits right behind the eyes. I like to inflict my spud-like gameplay on my team in at least 60fps, that way I don't miss any messages telling me what a noob I am.

Back in the day around 1995 i bought the game EF2000 but my PC back then was a 386 SX/16 with a whopping 16MHz in turbo.

The game like......1 frame..........30 seconds later..............1 frame............30 seconds later.

Had to wait for a 486 DX/2-66 to be able to play it.

OP still hasn't posted his specs.

Sad you suffer from the delusion that random battles are team games :D

I don't see that the exact specs are at all relevant. It's a crap PC, but yet despite it only being 8-10fps post 1.0 it has these spells of 40fps recently. That shows the PC can do it.

Now that you mention it, I seem to have issues with FPS aswell. Only in the garage though. It freezes for a microsecond when I move my mouse over various buttons, as if it's loading the pop-up info window. But, it only freezes 2-3 times before it's all back to normal.

Issue persists even with garage UI mods disabled.

Uninstall your mods like XVM

Moving to tech corner.

Hope you find a solution for your drop of fps.

Considering that I can beat that on a Pentium 4 with a 9600GT...

Please give us the specs of your machine.  It'll give is useful information as to what's going on

Tried that, no effect. I only had 2 mods anyway, a chat/spam blocker and a minimal garage mod.

No it won't

Actually I've realised the hi fps is only in arty aiming mode. I'm fine with that as that's the only time you need to see tracers. Hopefully the drop in fps was a one off.

I don't want to get anything

Edit : Just because a mod decided to transfer the thread to here doesn't make it a hardware issue. It's obviously software related, so exactly what type of config I've got is of zero importance.

By "get" I meant performance.

Also, this is the "tech corner" not hardware corner. That covers everything.

And all software runs on hardware. The performance of the software (which you've been having a problem with) is determined both by the software and its settings, but also by the hardware.

Knowing the hardware lets us know if your performance is on par, or if there might be improvements availiable.
