While you are waiting for the next battle to load, force the player to answer a captcha correctly or you will be booted.

Link it to WG's own score system, the higher the score you have the less likely you are having to prove you are not a bot.

Any downsides?

How to balance it to make it work and not being a hassle for players?

Is this yet another bad idea that I manage to throw out here on the forum? Should I stop thinking?

Cheers.

Seconded.

Can we get a third?

Before every battle? Sounds like a drag.

No, very rarely.

And as I said if you get a "good" rating you will probably not have to see this question at all.

Would be quite the drag for non-bots, especially since the days of the captcha seem to be long over.

But if the tests are somewhat intelligent and if non-bots don't get asked every few matches... well. Wouldn't hurt.

Like most things, it's evolving to be more clever and being able to sort out human versus scripts.

As for tests being intelligent, I leave that to WG...

There are (believe it or not) more difficult tests ;-)

Even if they had it, it won't remove the "bot" topics. As a bot today is simply someone who doesn't do what you want going by the whine topics of late.

And you could scare off the real players. As it has done on real sites as everyone hates the hassle after a day with it.

There should be something in place that can stop bots but I would hate it if I had to decipher and type in a password each game.

I know what you mean, but my aim is to get rid of real bots, not humans playing badly.

Less bots = better game play (ask me in 2037 again when script kiddies have caught up and bots are kicking unicum butt)

Not each game, it will only occur very rarely.

Over time, say 6 months (just guessing here) we will see less bots.

This is not a quick fix where the whole player base is forced to do tests within a day or two to prove they are humans.

Edit again:

Heck, give the players a reward for proving they are not a bot, give them spaghetti bolognese.

Oh, God, no.

There is Hell, then there is Captcha.

Just a captcha? How about a 15-minute IQ test, then a urine and stool test.

I wonder what people would say, if there is a capcha and nothing changes in players encountered. Would be some kind of confirmation, that people are seriously that bad. :hiding:

The first downside I immediately see is that I'll be unable to make coffee or go to the bathroom safely during countdowns. And before anyone whines about starting battles AFK, my loadtime is fast enough to enter the battle before the 30 sec countdown even starts giving me about 40 seconds before I have to do anything, my bathroom is 3 steps away, my coffeemachine 5 steps away.

The second downside I see is that captchas are incredibly annoying, and I'm not convinced the bot problem is prevalent enough to warrant pissing off everybody else. It's a typical example of "security theater", some security measure is applied that doesn't really do much but creates a hassle for every legitimate participant.

The third worry is a simple question, this "Score" you're talking about, is this some kind of unique captcha-score, as in the more captchas you've answered correctly in the past the less likely you are to be presented by one? Or are you actually referring to WG's own rating system, which is (amongst other things) linked to number of battles played (of which bot accounts may have disproportionally high values) and is inevitably going to create issues for legitimate but poorly performing players? If it's the first, fair enough, if it's the second, it's a completely stupid idea.

It's an idea that's worth looking into - which is more than any other haxx/bots/aliens stole my keyboard thread had to offer

Ikr.

I have to deal with those bloody captchas way too often at work already for actual work-related reasons.

WoT is one of the games I play to relax a little, not to get more annoyed with.

Well, okay, I do get annoyed with WoT at times, but I don't need the extra annoyances of captchas ontop.

Besides, most so-called "bots" in this game are humans anyhow, so a captcha wouldn't filter them out anyhow.

No?

Even if this works and the bots were kicked, the team missing a couple of tanks is still royally effed. Might as well let them spawn.

Also, I sometimes use the queue time+30 countdown to get something to eat/drink and I would not appreciate if I were kicked from a game just because I was a little hungry.
