I am interested in IS2 Berlin. I have few questions that I would be glad if someone can answer:

1. When is the IS2 Berlin usually available in the store (I cant find it as of now)?

2. Whats your opinion on it?

3. Besides the Churchill III is there another heavy Soviet premium that you might recommend to me instead of IS2 Berlin?

Much tanks guys :)

1) Some premiums get sold everyday (see tech tree) some get sold on a semi regular period like the IS2, some are very rare sales E25 and some are ultra rare. Its all down to marketing when they get sold.

2) never owned one but heard its ok

3) http://wiki.wargamin...134_Object_252K currently not for sale on EU because of too many complaints about it being over powered? I didn't think it was myself, but in T8 competitions its a pay to play as its as good as any of the best of the best T8's. The Polish 50TPPrototyp might well be close as you can get right now and because of the lack of complaints may make the 252 sellible again?

Don't bother with other premiums than tier 8. Therefore wait and get a Defender, it's still one of the better premiums

I dont feel comfortable playing a tier 8 tank which can meet tier X tanks on the battlefield. I am pretty much a newbie with my number of games played. I will get destroyed by Tier 9-X tanks and be more of a nuisance to my team.

I was considering my options:
1. IS2 Berilin- tier 7 and will face tier 9 max. (which is a logical step for me since my current top tier tanks are tier 6)

2. IS3A (a decent option because it has good penetration (220 vs 175 of IS6). But will face tier X games which I am not ready for.

3. IS6- A more viable option for me than IS3A actually. It has preferential MM (which is good in my case). However that horrible 175mm pen is seriously bad. This will more likely struggle with its own tier and not to mention tier 9. Every WOT reviewer said so and it doesnt take a Harward diploma to realise that 175mm is not enough in those tiers.
Just looking at the stats I feel like this tank is meant to bait you to use premium ammo.

Of the 3, the IS-2 Berlin feels the best option really. It's mobile (handy for bottomtier games: mobility > armor). The 390 alpha gun still hurts & same alpha as the two others. Not known for its armor, so rather play it as a fat medium when bottomtier (it has the mobility for it). Toptier, you can play it more like a heavy, just beware same-tier TD's.

Edit; as Three_Rounds_Rapid mentions, the IS-2 berlin also comes with a nice crew that has Brother in Arms standard, so if you keep them together, your tank comes with a 5% bonus in performance. So the IS-2 berlin wins out (crew layout of this tank also fits most other IS tanks, a great bonus as well)

IS-3A suffers from its lack of crew layout (only 3 crew: Commander, driver, gunner) & horrible engine that's worse then a stock IS-3, so it has very bad mobility. It also comes with mysterious bad gun handling, so hitting stuff reliably will be a challenge. To top if off, it only carries 28 shells, which is really low for a T8 tank that isn't an arty piece.

IS-6 is simply powercrept. Toptier it's still amazing (providing it doesn't get matched against an armored T8 heavy, which can be tricky), but the current MM just throws it into too much T9 games, making it hard to be enjoyable. Even full T8 games won't give much satisfaction as there's quite some heavy armored T8 tanks around & because the IS-6 is also classified as an armored heavy, it will be balanced against one too often.

An alternative suggestion for a good premium tank is the t-34-85M medium tank, it's a great T6 medium tank & falls within the tiers you already have played. Hardly armored (it's a med after all), but does come with a nice gun & nice mobility.

Making this suggestion as I noticed you got the t-34 tank, which is a neat T5 med.

Note that playing meds is initially harder, but when you get better at them, you get more options to play on maps & being able to reach different places on the map is an often under-appreciated ability for newer players.

Wise words from UrQuan, I'd agree with everything he said. Other plus with the IS-2B is the zero rated BiA crew.

UrQuan you summarised all the YT review of all the tanks pretty much on point. Shame for the IS6 for that pen. They did buff it a bit few patches back but they buffed the wrong thing. The armour. And personally Id rather play a glass-cannon than a moving fortress (which IS6 still isnt) that cant do anything to 50% of the tanks it faces. If I wanted to go around the battlefield and meet tanks with out being able to shoot at them I would have selected the light tank path :teethhappy:.

As for the T34-85m I was considering it. But I am very new to the medium playstyle and need something that Im familiar with to train my crew and grind free exp.
I am on my route to get the T34 armoured from the Battle or Kursk. But after I buy the premium soviet heavy most likely my next will be a good medium. for sure

BORDHAW
Thats just typical! I hope its on sale again soon.

Try the KV-122 on the test server. Much more mobility with same alpha gun.

Always wanted to ask that. How does one access the test severs?

You have to download the common test from the WG site, then make sure it goes into a separate directory from you're WOT normal game. It's great fun, every time they start it up you get 100,000,000 in credits and free xp, and 20,000 gold! I blew around 90 million free xp in a day upgrading crew to 5 skills to see what it was like.

Now for the shocking part. I play on a MAC. :teethhappy:
Is it compatible with MAC?

As compatible as standard WOT.

How do you play it on a Mac? If you use that mac client you'd need a seperate build of the test server.  If you bootcamp, you can install it like you do the normal client.

You could always bootcamp an unlicenced windows installation to run the test server.

I have no idea sorry, it might be compatible with an overcoat?

And a trivial correction, I went on the test yesterday and realised I didn't blow all that free xp to give crew just 5 skill/perks, but every one they can possibly have, in an IS3. I'm such a bad player however, that I could tell no difference between the one with max perks crew on the test server to my own with just 2 each! :teethhappy:

That's one of the things with crew skills though,  there are a few that provide a big advantage, like 6th sense, repairs on heavies, camo on lights and TDs.

After that,  they are all very minor improvements.

It's solid tier 7 tank, that's functionally equivalent to one of the stronger tier 7 tanks - if you liked IS, you will like it as well.

It's flexible enough to pull it's own weight regardless of matchmaking, comes with a crew that has free BIA, and has unique paint job (though they're just decals, you need to add camo yourself if you want the camo bonus). Produces enough money for positive credit balance even without prem account (conditions may apply) and trains crews for one of the most relevant tank lines.

I second your opinion. There are very few game changing skills (like 6th sense) which I always prioritise because I cant imagine my life with out it ever since I finally unlocked it after a painful grind. However some tanks are more vunerable when you dont have a fully trained % crew than some other tanks.

Yes I was hoping to have a tank that can give credits, teach my crews and still be able to stand on its own for majority of the cases. (Im so used to tanks that cant be alone my russian TD's and my KV2.) It would be a nice change of pace for me.
Im currently grinding my KV85 with that BB gun 85mm its HORRIBLE!! 4000exp short of 100mm gun

Even better, the 85mm gun is the only gun you can use on a stock IS even with the 100mm and the 122mm unlocked already. Save up that free XP.

I have memories of bouncing on the flat side of an M4 3 times. Failed to reset the cap, lost the game.  Abbey N spawn from B2 bushes... bleh.

Just an FYI there are some buffs in the pipe work for pref. MM tanks. So, IS-6 would get a little bit of love (pen 175 - 183 IIRC).

Well, then you're in kind of luck. (or not, depends on your viewpoint). IS-2 B is only periodically available (= you have to wait to be able to purchase it). Once you've researched and tried out the IS (with 122mm gun), you pretty much know whether you like the IS-2 or not. If you enjoyed playing it, then put IS-2B in your shopping list, if you didn't enjoy it, well, then, keep looking for another heavy :).

The biggest mistake in buying a premium tank is buying something you don't like playing. To get the most out of them you need to stomach hundreds of games in it, and you don't want to subject yourself to playing miserable tank just because it provides credits. You'll just be flat out happier for playing something for 200 battles in a tank that suits you, than 100 in an absolute turdbucket, even if it brought you extra credits or had exactly the crew layout you need.
