Live vs 226mm pen:

Looks like a good and balanced turret.

Though area above gun seems to be weak to HEAT even if gun depression is used.

But otherwise, definitely a nicely produced turret by WG.

I think it is a slightly worse Caernarvon, but still better then for example KV-4 and Tiger II and VK4502A.

That is against 330 pen HEAT and using the gun depression, that is not bad for a tier 8 tank.  Certainly gives the tanks some utility when fighting higher tiers, it's effectively a Cent AX turret with some extra spaced armour.

Rest of the tank is pretty solid, decently mobile, if not that fast in a straight line but certainly not easy to circle and will be able to get into positions ok. Very comfortable gun handling with decent aim time, accuracy, dispersions, good shell velocity + -10 gun depression.

If you use vents + rammer + BIA + food you can get the reload down to 4.67s for some perm-a-tracking action.

Plus solid 226 AP pen should mean you don't need to use too much premium ammo, though the 20 lbers ammo is notoriously expensive for the level of alpha.

Hope the marathon is similar to the Progetto where you earn yourself discounts off the top price.

If it's anything like progetto event it's not anything to get excited about.

The Progetto Marathon got progressively harder and more time consuming so you only really got it "free" if you put in serious hours. Most normal players I reckon reached about 50-60% discount which still made it costly given the high RRP.

I think it is the right formula for such events. Fixed objectives announced at the start of the event so every player can decide if it is worth it for them personally. If you have job and family, thus not much time to grind for the event, you can still get yourself a nice discount, provided you want the tank ofc. There are also many out of job kids or teens with a lot of free time, a sizable portion of those are mostly free2play guys and so a tier 8 premium for free is something great for them.
I mean, if WG wanted to gift us a tier 8 premium, they would do it. Events such as the Progetto and now this one are NOT gifting, WG simply gives you the opportunity to pay for the tank partially or fully with your time instead of cash.
Plus if it like last time, the Progetto came bundled with some quite substantial bonuses, i mean those 30 2 hour credit boosters alone kept me rolling in credits for months.

Doesn't really bother me, I got to the 60% discount on the Progetto and missed more than half the time available.

So I'll either do similar or if I have more time get it free or next to nothing, and I was going to buy this tank anyway. Essentially if they do it the same, much like the Progetto, I am going to just play normally and get a tier 8 premium I wanted for the price of a like a tier 6.

Cool ! I guess I'll be playing World of Tanks again for a bit. Will watch for the requirements and plan myself a steady pace to allow it to finish with 2-3 days to spare, in case of incidents. So far, did the IS-6, WZ-111. Super Pershing, Type 62, KV-220-2, Dicker Max, T-44-100, T25 Pilot and Spaghetto. Marathons are kinda my thing. I'm good at managing a pace, while a lot of people trihard it and then burn out after a week.

Eh... progetto was at least worth the marathon time.. this thing is just a poor mans Cent5/1 being bigger and slower.  The dpm boost is what all 20 pounder tanks need due to the bollocks aimtime they got with the crap alpha

You get a lot more armour, a lot more DPM and better gun handling, that is a decent trade for the mobility.

I can probably do it by slogging my guts out for a month. Or I can work one shift of OT and buy four tier VIII Premium tanks that I can't play

Like that 1 game we both hulldown and you was all REEEEEE when they penned your turret every shot? :P

Literally the 1 oddball game, which I believe I said at the time :v

But ye, with the 4202 turret you can bait shots at the plate above the gun, you just need to work on peeking so that you don't expose the turret ring until they've fired. With the Centurion turret, it doesn't really work against the pen you'll see unless they hit the mantlet edges.

Nah, its still strong, about 450-540mm+ effective to HEAT when using gun dep

It still has that terrible weakness of flat ground = useless giant turret roof. FV4202 has the same turret style and pissed me off every shot threw my giant roof. Without a hill that turret is cheese.  cents roof it’s auto bounce on same ground level and the minimum armour of that turret is 230ish next to the gun, very small spot. Rest is minimum 254 flat on.

Edit: FV turret is RNG and I don’t like leaving my survivability in the hands of RNG.

Most of the top of the Caern AX turret is 250 effective on flat ground, aside the cupola you need like 260-270 pen to go through the turret anywhere reliably. Plus its a tall tank so most tanks shooting up against it will be facing more like 260 armour on that top plate if they are close.

Hardly 'cheese', you aren't getting much stronger turrets on tier 8.

Its a very good turret for a tier 8 heavy and one that can be further boosted with good play, Cent 1 turret is also good but the mantlet is only 235 and people can punch straight through that by shooting near the gun.

It’s a small part next to the gun. The rest is overlapping armour of insane effectiveness.... for a medium it’s one of the strongest with 10 gundep and can laugh at same tier TDs

why would that be BS ? ...lots of ppl havent bought that tank

edit:

that beeing said...i would prefer that brit anyway :O

Well they cant do that....first sell the tank than make a marathon 1 day later to let people get it for free.

Dont know the english name for it.....but that would be a scam.

Thats why you would never see a marathon for the Lowe,T34  ect.

If I get it at under 20, maybe. Just not a fan of low alpha guns. Get bored to fast.

I do hope we can remove the special cammo on that one. It's way too ugly for my liking.
