I need another 130K to research the M 46 Patton. Is it better than the Pershing?

It's one of the best, if not the best, tier 9 medium and yes, it's much better than the pershing.

I know that feeling ... we not unicum are not in empathy with all the tanks.

A bit like some actors will fit any character, others only one kind.

Reverse that logic and you get the patton. It's a tank that fits most roles making it easier to play.

I'm grinding this now. Do NOT rely on mantlet Armour, or the turret Armour in general, only effective vs lower tiers, most same tiers just shoot you in the face. other than that its a solid machine good mix of mobility and accuracy is a good spotter aswell.

It's vastly superior to the Pershing in every way. Much higher alpha and DPM, better gun handling, better armour, better mobility, everything really.

The jump from the Pershing to the M46 Patton is a big one..

Pershing is a great all rounder but protected many a time by the mantlet when peeking ridges...Patton i would say is alot better tank due to the Alpha with the top gun but do not expect any bounces on the turret (You need to

take your shots carefully after the opponant has fired)...

The tier 10 is a beast tho as it gives all what the Patton has (And more) and a bit of what the Pershing had.. (Turret protection when poking ridges...Patton has none)...and the gun is a bliss to use.

Depends on your play style, some meds are bruisers some are snipers some are hit and runs, some are average all-rounders, when asking about a tank it's always best to state your preferred play-style.

It is much better than the Pershing indeed, but you will see the great difference once you elite the vehicle.

I know this could attract people with pitchforks and torches outside my house but... I liked the Pershing A LOT. Loved it in FL despite the low pen.

The m46 hasn't impressed me so far but I 'm playing WoT sporadically so I expect good things in the future. That view range though...

Ive went through that line back on my main and can say a thing or two about Pattons.

So, a comprehensive guide to M46:

  • dont suffer through it's cannon grind, it's terrible. u want to save as much free xp to unlock his top cannon as soon as possible
  • it's hull has basically no armour
  • it's turret has some armour, u may bounce a shot or two, but it's main advantage is the size - it's actually pretty small
  • excellent gun depression. ridges are your best friends
  • insane dpm
  • terrible pen on regular ammo and decent pen on gold
  • mediocre accuracy. this aint a "sniper" vehicle
  • it loses very little acuracy from moving or turning your turret. very easy to snapshot
  • while it's top speed is mediocre, the mobility is awesome - accelerates fast, turn even faster
  • u can skip optics with this one - with decent crew and ventilation it gets more than 450 view range, even without cola

With M46 u want to be mobile and unexpected. Use hardcover and ridges, ur mobility and armoured turret will do the rest. Make use of ur excellent view range and dpm. Dont ever rely on your hull armour, dont snipe too much. Use your gold ammo. A lot.

Thats pretty much all.Gl, hf, M46 is an awesome and fun vehicle :)

The M48 is one of the best mediums for random right now IMHO.

The M46 is also great, only the pen is letting it down a bit. I haven't played it after the turret buff, but it was already great before that, so I can imagine it being even better now that now everyone and their mom pen your turret when you peek over a ridge.

I free exp'ed the top gun and turret so can't advice you on stock grinds apart from this:

There's a 90mm gun that doesn't carry over, skip it.

You can mount the 105mm gun with the stock turret.

One of the best tier 9 meds.

-I wouldn't call the accuracy mediocre. With a 100% crew it's already 0.36, while mine with BIA and cola is 0.35

-I use optics to be able to outspot others, because of having bad camo yourself. Mine is at 510, with BIA, optics, both view range skills and Cola.

-DPM is 3218 with my setup

-Mobility is quite good, which is one of the things I love about this tank. Top speed is not the best, but still fine. I played this line, while not enjoying it too much... until I reached both Pattons.

-pen is also fine. I don't see why people complain about such a pen all the time. learn to play if you can only spam gold in it.

I played through the tier 9 Patton mostly stock, except for the gun upgrade and the engine which carried over. I mounted a torsion spring for the extra weight to mount the 105mm gun. It is a slow medium tank, and with the stock turret I couldn't bounce anything. It is a good tank. The gun is amazing. The view range is also nice. I liked it.

The tier 10 has much better gun handling, and much faster gun reload time. The turret does occassionally bounce non-premium ammo, but I rarely see anybody shooting non-premium ammo at tier 10.

I never shoot premium ammo. I find the gun at tier 9 has difficulty penetrating heavy armor. The tier 10 gun is much better and you can pen everything at close range, but at long range you don't have the accuracy to shoot weakspots.

If you don't like to fire gold, choose a tank with good standard penetration. The M46 is definitely bad at that.

Check out the cent 7/1 with 268 standard pen and an accurate gun. Also the 430 with 238 standard pen which has some armor and a very stupid gun! :)

Tier 9 Patton's gun is pretty good. Not as good as some of the other tier 10s with proper tier 10 guns. But it was worth it to get to the tier 10.

Tier VIII Pershing is decent in tier VIII but nothing special. Not the worst not the best.

Tier IX  M46 Patton is definitely one of the stronger tier IX mediums once elite.

To get the best from the M46 you need to move around the battlefield (taking advantage of the mobility) and where possible peek over things and snap shoot.
