Hi folks,

I can't help but feel I'm doing something wrong with my Strv 103-0.  I'm frequently getting spotted at long ranges when firing, and I really don't understand how others are playing this tank while staying hidden.  Sure, if I don't fire I can hide in a bush and watch enemy drive right past me, but when I fire I seem to get lit up like a Christmas tree.

My RU-251 for example has a far lower concealment rating overall, but I can confidently snipe at range without needing to be double-bushed, and not get spotted.  My strv seems to reveal itself far, far more than the RU.  Yet the Strv has an 843 concealment rating overall, while my RU has 760.  The Strv has 56.78 stationary concealment, whereas the RU has 42.19, but I just don't have the same confidence in my cammo on the Strv, I have to position on the assumption that I'm going to get lit.  Heck, I've had heavy tanks spot me at around 420m out (and no, there weren't any enemy lights hidden nearby, the whole team was lit and I knew I was at extreme range, with a cammo net active).

Has anybody else noticed this?  Any tips for making the most of the Strv?

Because you don't know how to play "Hide n' Seek" properly

If you have brothers in arms and concealment skills + camo net and paint job, you must be around 950-1000 camo rating. How much is your rating?

I think the issue is you come from a tank in the UDES that has better camo and as such try to go to the same positions in the STRV 103 that you simply can't get away with, added to that the view range at tier 9 & X is normally better than most tier 8's so it is a double blow.  Hence you get spotted more....

103 on left & UDES on the right

Also depends on what skills / equipment you use for me I use Bro in arms / sister of steel camo skills, camo paint and camo net, so if you don't take one of them your going to be even easier to spot!

Once last point the Swedish TD's need you to play with bush properly if your having to spot for your self, when you spot the enemy pull back then fire don't fire throuh clear bush as if you do your easy to spot (hope that makes sense) plenty of guides to show you how to play with bushes

Yep, earlier tank destroyers in the Swedish line have better camo and their opponents have weaker spotting ability. Thus the most effective and most fun to play is not the top tier Swedish TD but probably the UDES.

This.

You have to train to be useless for your team by camping the red line. Then do all the damage when the game is lost and call your team a bunch of losers. End up top in damage and complain about your bot team in the forum.

Thanks guys.  And the custom paint job was a good tip, I don't use those on many tanks, adding that made a big difference to the camo ratings.  I'm up to 923 overall, and 60.78 stationary now (commander is still training cammo, I went for BIA, 6th sense and recon first, didn't need the extra cammo on the earlier tanks).   :)

I'm just finding that even when I pull back behind a bush I'm getting lit.  Just had it happen again, it seems the camo drops a *lot* when you fire on this tank.

Use the link below to calculate your tank's camo. That rating is kinda useless.

http://www.wotinfo.n...camo-calculator

Using camo net, vehicle paint and a 100% camo crew gives you:

  • 61% camo stationary
  • 29.27% camo while moving
  • 12.76% camo while shooting without any bushes

Say your enemy have 455m view range,

  • He will spot you at 177.45m if you're stationary and not firing your gun.
  • He will spot you at 321.8m if you're moving, not while turning but moving forwards or backwards.
  • He will spot you at 397m if you're shooting your gun without any bushes in front of you.

My 103b which has slightly worse camo than 103-0 has 61.48% camo while stationery(934 rating) with BiA+Camo net+Camo skill+Camo on tank. so if you get spotted is because you either hide inside the bush(instead of 15 meters away) which lights you up as soon as you fire you gun or you get to close to the enemies. Strv tanks are long range snipers while 103b can also be a close combat tank but still their main role is long range combat. Most of the time if I play my 103b right I never get spotted till late into the game.

cuz you painted it safety yellow ?

seriously tho ... you are doing something wrong, either not having the right skills (crew) or being up front 2 early, not double bushing, or something because those things are pretty darn stealthy

You should put camo on everything. It used to be expensive but nowadays we're talking 75000 for 100 battles use which is practically nothing. Even if the extra little bit of camo only lets you get off one more shot before dying it's more than paid for itself.

Put camouflage paint on, train all crew members with camo skill at 100%, take camo net if you want to enhance further but most important of all....

........double bush before firing, not solo bush.

Cheers
